   I don't think I can say I have ever gotten anything I didn't like. I am always surprised, thankful and grateful for what ever anyone has been kind enough to offer me.

   We all, in life, recieve gifts we don't want.  Probably the best way to react, as with most situations is graciously.  The gifter had the goodness to thiink of you but didn't get it right; so what, it's no loss, and the sun will still be in the sky tomorrow and everything will be right with universe.

   Actually the gifts that I receive are usually so well thought out that they scream "me". I guess those who love me know my likes very well.
   
   In any case, if I received a gift I did not like I would act graciously and grateful anyway so as not to hurt the giver's feelings.

   I've had a few things that where I had to fake some enthusiasm. The worst and best gift I ever received was a Velvet Painting of Elvis. It was give to me by a boyfriend's mother. We hadn't been dating long, but she had talked to me enough that I was surprised she would not know how much I'd loathe a velvet Elvis. I saw haflway through opening the gift that I was going to have to think of something nice to say. So I put on my best smile and politely thanked her for the lovely painting. At that moment everyone burst out laughing and I was more than relieved to find out it was a joke. They all knew I'd be polite and they just wanted to see what on earth I would come up with to say about a velvet Elvis. I'm no longer with the boyfriend, but the velvet Elvis has made the rounds and has been a source of delight to anyone new to my friends and family.

   When I receive a gift I want to be something original, unique....and to surprise me. It doesn`t really matter what it is....

    Not too often I suppose. I always smile and say thank you. Depending on how close I am with the person sometimes I'll tell them I don't like it and they go and exchange it for something I do like. If I'm not close enough with that person to do that then I pretend to like the gift and later give it to someone else who will truly appreciate it. At the end of the day though it's the thought that counts and anyone who takes their time and their hard earned cash to get something for me is someone who I will be genuinely grateful to.
