I love White Christmas, the Santa Clause movie series (with Tim Allen), and The Kranks.

There are the classics like "Miracle on 34th Street" and "It’s A Wonderful Life".
In the modern era I like movies such as "Love Actually", "While You Were Sleeping", "The Holiday" and "Last Holiday". They are not so much about Christmas itself but rather the holiday serves as a back drop to a love story.
The best macho movies set around the holidays would be the first "Lethal Weapon" and the first "Die Hard" movie..
The best comedies would be "Bad Santa" (not for kids), "Home Alone", and "Christmas Vacation"

I know of many but somehow, these titles held something special for me. Besides, I love cartoons. The Ghost Christmas of Eve, a Christmas Carol. Disney's christmas titles and the old christmas themed cartoons that features stories like, the poor matchbox seller girl that longs for a warm christmas.
You can say I enjoy the awakening of the touchy emotional side and the high victorious spirit of christmas all in one.

I wish everyone of you in advance; a "Blessed and Merry Christmas!"

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. A truly hilarious movie. I think anyone can identify with some of the family issues in the movie.

I was going to suggest this too. It is really funny. I think anyone with a family can identify with most of it.  But, you may have to see the first Vacation to see why the Griswalds are such a crazy family.

I love the oldies, White Christmas, Christmas in Connecticut, Miracle on 34th St (the old one).  I love old movies just to see the clothing and all of the sets.

Christmas Carol (GC Scott); It's a Wonderful Life; Scrooged with Bill Murray. A hoot and touching.

"The Bishop's Wife" (1947), starring Cary Grant, Loretta Young, and David Niven; and the remake, "The Preacher's Wife" (1996), starring Denzel Washington and the late Whitney Houston. These are marvelous Christmas movies, well worth netflexing/renting/buying/on-demand, etc.

cclitgirl--I am planning to write a hub about this question--I'm glad you asked it! Anyway--I like the version of  "A Christmas Carol" starring Albert Finney the best of all. It was a 1970 musical and has great songs. ("Father Christmas" and "Thank You Very Much" are the funniest.) It captures the essence of the book by Charles Dickens and is both funny and serious when it needs to be.  A close second is "The Muppet Christmas Carol" with Michael Caine as Scrooge. I think he did a great job interacting with the Muppets in the movie. Have a  Merry Christmas cclitgirl!

I love those "feel good ones." It's a Wonderful Life, of course. It makes me happy every time I watch it. Same with the old black and white Miracle on 34th Street. Scrooged with Bill Murray is like rfmoran says: a hoot and touching. I saw that in college when it first came out at the theater with a could of friends. We were so fired up afterwards that we were dancing in the aisles during the credits. (We were the only ones in the theater. :-)) After that, we went to the grocery store where my friend bought about $200 worth of groceries--a huge amount for  a poor college student. We went to an old trailer park and dropped off the bags on the front steps of a random trailer. I've always wondered if that made an impact.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this one but "A Christmas Story" is one of my all time favorites. Just cute and funny, particularly at the end when they ate Christmas dinner in a Chinese restaurant. As long as the family is together right?

I also agree with the Christmas story. I love it, and watch it every year! The best scene has to be when they take the kids to see Santa at the mall, with the big slide. And, the tripple dog dare!

A Christmas Story is my favorite, followed by The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, then The Grinch with Jim Carrey.

I think it's called "The Red Shoe" or something like that.  It's about a little boy who wants to buy a beautiful pair of shoes his dying mother admired.  And he did.  It's a Lifetime movie.  It just wrenches your heart with the deep love between mother and son.

I find most Christmas movies very cliché and stupid. However, I make an exception for "It's a Wonderful Life"
