I think this comes from Dave Ramsey, but the advice was to set goals that are quantifiable, with tasks you can complete and a timeline to follow them. Instead of a goal to lose weight, say the goal is to lose 20 pounds in the year. Then list how you would accomplish it, such as walking more and eating out less. Then list how you'll do it in measurable steps, such as walking 10 minutes a day or no longer ordering out pizza every week.
Set measurable goals, define how you can accomplish it and how you'll do that on a daily or weekly basis.
