When you celebrate a holiday, is it for your belief system or your family and friends?

My family celebrates all of the major Christian holidays (Easter, Christmas, etc), but we aren't religious at all. We do it so that we can connect with our family, enjoy each other's company, and be together. And I don't think it's wrong at all to treat holidays more as a way to bring families closer together. What do you think? Do you celebrate holidays for religious purposes, or for family reasons? Do you think people who aren't religious should stray away from religious holidays?
