It's still called Oiche Shamhna (not Samhain as most americans incorrectly believe) in Ireland. Samhain is Irish for the month of November. Oiche means night. So really Oiche Shamhna means November Night.

When I was - a lot - younger we had Mischief Night before Bonfire Night, (Guy Fawkes Night), November 5th, a combination of both occasions. We used to take people's gates off their hinges and play 'Knock-a-door-run', making nuisances of ourselves.
