I try not to make any resolutions, I make goals. Last year my goals were to get my cat to lose weight and to cut back on smoking. My cat lost 5-10 lbs, and I haven't touched a cig since June, though I now use a vaporizer. This year my goals are to get insurance for myself so I can get healthier. I just got a job that provides insurance for free after 90 days, so I can go to the Dr., dentist, and get my eyes checked out by the middle of the year. I just need to keep the job, I have a tendency to flip flop a lot. Another goal is to finally buy a house, and with the increase in salary as well as the increases in credit that my husband and I have had the past few months, we're getting closer to that.
Personally I find resolutions to be pointless. Promising to drop 10 lbs or stop doing something on the first day of a new year, which is a huge party and recovery day, is just dumb. I think people should decide to set goals for themselves any day of the year, and keep up with them because they want to, not because they feel pressured or obligated because they make a half hearted promised while drunk at a party in front of a bunch of wasted friends that probably won't even remember what happened, let alone your resolution. Set a life goal, and take baby steps to get there, that way when the results start coming, whether 6 weeks or 6 months down the line, you can be proud of what you've managed to accomplish all on your own.
