Christmas with the Beach Boys

Updated on September 23, 2014

Little Saint Nick

Everyone knows that the Beach Boys sing about the surf and (California) girls but not everyone knows that they released a Christmas album in 1964. Beach Boy fans promptly bought the album and it has remained a favorite throughout the years.

In 1964 the Beach Boys were the three brothers: Dennis, Carl and Brian Wilson, a friend, Al Jardine and a Wilson cousin, Mike Love. Although Brian has always been considered the head of the group, writing many of the songs, Mike Love was always the front man.

Beach Boy fans believe that it isn't Christmas without the Beach Boys playing in the background.

The 1964 Christmas album

The Christmas album had new songs written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love. There were contemporary Christmas songs and a Christmas carol. It was an eclectic mix and an instant best seller.

Billboard states that the Beach Boys are the the most popular American band of all time. The core group of the three Wilsons, Love and Jardine were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

Songs you will find on the album, uh, I mean CD.

1. Little Saint Nick
2. The Man With All The Toys
3. Santa's Beard
4. Merry Christmas, Baby
5. Christmas Day
6. Frosty The Snowman

Little Saint Nick

Lyrics to Little Saint Nick

Written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love

"Little Saint Nick"

(Brian Wilson/Mike Love)

Oooooooo

Merry Christmas Saint Nick

Christmas comes this time each year

Oooooooo oooooooo

Well, way up north where the air gets cold

There's a tale about Christmas that you've all been told

And a real famous cat all dressed up in red

And he spends the whole year workin' out on his sled

It's the little Saint Nick

Ooooo, little Saint Nick

It's the little Saint Nick

Ooooo, little Saint Nick

Just a little bobsled we call it old Saint Nick

But she'll walk a toboggan with a four speed stick

She's candy-apple red with a ski for a wheel

And when Santa hits the gas, man, just watch her peel

It's the little Saint Nick

Ooooo, little Saint Nick

It's the little Saint Nick

Ooooo, little Saint Nick

Run run reindeer

Run run reindeer

Whoaa

Run run reindeer

Run run reindeer

He don't miss no one

And haulin' through the snow at a frightenin' speed

With a half a dozen deer with Rudy to lead

He's gotta wear his goggles 'cause the snow really flies

And he's cruisin' every pad with a little surprise

It's the little Saint Nick

Ooooo, little Saint Nick

It's the little Saint Nick

Ooooo, little Saint Nick

Ahhhhhh

Oooooooo

Merry Christmas Saint Nick

Christmas comes this time each year

Ahhhhhh

Oooooooo

Merry Christmas Saint Nick

Christmas comes this time each year

Ahhhhhh

Oooooooo

Merry Christmas Saint Nick

Christmas comes this time each year

Christmas Day Written by Brian - Lead vocal Al Jardine

Beach Boys Christmas Music - The Ultimate Christmas CD

Ultimate Christmas
Ultimate Christmas

After reading the reviews, I have to agree that the Ultimate Christmas CD is the best bet. It includes all their Christmas music. I would buy one myself but I am still listening to my 1964 album.

Blue Christmas Brian as the soloist

We Three KIngs The harmony is great and backed by an orchestra for this song.

Frosty the Snowman

My take

It would be easy to add all of the information about the Beach Boys themselves. Carl and Dennis are no longer with us. Brian had problems but made a comeback. As with any family or group, life happens. What needs to be remembered here is that they were and still are a unique group that provided us with years of entertainment.

Wht do you think?

My wife's favorite Christmas album, growing up, innocence served up by a not so innocent group. Until Bob Dylan did a Christmas album, it stood at as the greatest contrast. By the way, if you have heard Barenaked Ladies Christmas album, try it. It's great.
