Belleek Shamrock China - start a Gift Tradition

Updated on October 27, 2014

Belleek Shamrock China for St. Patrick's Day

Belleek china is a beautiful high end hand-painted parian china made in Ireland. Belleek ranges from very expensive collector's pieces to quite affordable everyday items, so anyone can give Belleek as a gift. It is collectable, useful, and it will never go out of style - it's been made continuously for well over 100 years!

Why not start a tradition of Belleek gift giving? Sometimnes it's hard to decide what to give someone - but if you start them on Belleek you'll never have that problem again. You'll always be able to add a piece of Belleek to their treasures, and they will use your gifts almost daily for many, many years. In today's throw-away culture, Belleek is a refreshing and environmental choice.

My own Belleek china collection is special to me because almost all of it has been given to me as a gift - I always get a dinner plate, mug, vase, or frame on St. Paddy's, and often for my birthday and Christmas I will get special pieces, such as the Irish Blessing Plate pictured further down. It's a tradition I love, and I hope to pass my Belleek on to my daughter, who loves it as well.

The perfect gift - a Belleek frame with a treasured photo inside.

I love Belleek

I enjoy my Belleek Shamrock china on holidays (especially on St. Patricks's), and I combine it with my green Fiestaware; it looks amazing and guests are always complimentary about my table. I get most of my Belleek as gifts from my family, and it's very welcome! I know my family likes to give it to me because it's easy - they don't have to think about what to get me, and they know I will like it.

Perhaps you can continue, or begin, a similar tradition. If you are getting married and like Belleek why not register for it? It is a classic that will never look dated, and you will always be able to get more if you need it. If you're Irish, it is a way to celebrate your heritage with beautiful everyday things.

I love my Belleek because it is beautiful, but also because when I look at it I remember who gave it to me and when, and that makes it even more special.

My Favorite Piece of Belleek

Belleek Castle Vase
Belleek Castle Vase

This was the first piece of Belleek I ever got from my daughter. I love the Shamrocks, and I love that it's a castle! The porcelain is glossy and translucent, and it's just the right size for flowers from my garden. This vase looks great on it's own on my mantle, but it's even better filled with the green carnations my daughter will give me on St. Patrick's. This would make a great first piece to a collection of Belleek china.

Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy.

Belleek Shamrock China on eBay - Trying to find a deal or a special piece?

eBay can be a great source for older collectable Belleek, or good prices...just be sure the seller has a good track record!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! - What do you think of Belleek, or the Shamrock pattern? Do you own some? Would you give it as a gift?

@KarenHC: Yes they are gorgeous! The pictures really don't do Belleek justice at all, if you can go see some in a shop.

These Belleek china pieces are beautiful, and I'd enjoy having a few of them myself.
