Best Gift Ideas for Pregnant Women 2015

Great Gift Ideas for Women who are Pregnant

As someone whose wife has gone through five pregnancies I've had my fair share of chances to get her gifts. While my wife is typically comfortable during the first stages of pregnancies, this changes drastically once she hits her third trimester.

What may be appropriate for your loved one may depend upon the number as well as difficulty of the pregnancy that she's going through. Keep in mind her needs and the gift should go over well.

This is a great gift for a friend of the expectant Mother to give. If you're a partner or spouse, you may want to stay clear of this one.

Stretch Mark Prevention

I'm one of those guys who thinks that their wife is the most beautiful while she's pregnant. That being said it's not always about my needs and many women get uncomfortable with the way their skin looks during and after pregnancy.

While she probably won't be able to completely avoid stretch marks, the best way to minimize it is by using a prevention cream. My favorite is from Dermology, but Revitol seems to do a good job as well.

Also Consider:

You might also want to consider getting Earth Mama Angel Baby Natural Stretch Oil to help her skin stay supple. Stretching skin is also itchy, so this product not only helps reduce the likelihood of permanent marks, but will give a lot of comfort for such dry and itchy skin.

This is a 4 ounce bottle that includes all natural oils and ingredients to be safely used while pregnant. It is good not only for bellies, but hips, buttocks, and breasts; those are all areas that stretch on a woman's pregnant body. The scent is also light so it doesn't overpower her nose and make her stomach queasy.

During natural childbirth, it can also be used for a perineal massage to make that skin stretch more easily too. I would advise any mother-to-be to make sure it absorbs into the skin before getting dressed; it is oil so you don't want to risk it transferring to your clothing.

Best Book as Gifts for Pregnant Women

Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy: From Doctors Who Are Parents, Too!
Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy: From Doctors Who Are Parents, Too!

Going through pregnancy is a special time for both of you. Understanding what she's going through with her will create a special bond for you to share over the coming years.

May Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy book

Any mom will appreciate tips on how to keep herself healthy during pregnancy. Consider giving this Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy book as a gift. The Mayo Clinic is highly respected and puts out a lot of the necessary health information that we all need. This guide will give expecting parents a week by week account of how the baby is growing, what is happening to the fetus and what is happening to mom.

This book is not a novelty, it gives very real information about how previous health issues affect pregnancy, troublesome things to look for, and offers a section to help parents make some big decisions about their baby. Some of these include breastfeeding, circumcision and other issues that affect parents.

The book is written in a no nonsense kind of way that can be bit clinical and boring, but it does offer a lot of useful information. It also isn't the most scientifically complete book but it is much better than many other "informative" books out there.

Ingrid & Isabel Women's Maternity Bellaband

Pregnant women go through so many different sizes through their pregnancy that it can be a bit aggravating. This Ingrid & Isabel Women's Maternity Bellaband gives some added convenience to her wardrobe that she will appreciate.

They come in a couple different colors to help match other articles of clothing as well. The reason these are so popular are because they give some added length to shirts that start to be too short, they also hide those ugly elastic waistbands in maternity pants.

Yes, it may mean less snuggle time, but she'll thank you for all the great sleep she's finally getting.

Best Pillows for Pregnant / Expecting Mothers

This next one is a gift of pure unselfishness for the to-be Dad's out there. Yes, getting her this pillow may mean you miss out on some snuggle time. That being said she'll be so much more comfortable it's well worth missing out on a little cuddle time.

It's so comfortable she might even find herself using it after her pregnancy. In those instances it might be in your best interest to find a spot to hide it until the next pregnancy...

Today's Mom Cozy Comfort Pregnancy Pillow

One pillow I really like is the Today's Mom Cozy Comfort Pregnancy Pillow. It gives an aching pregnant body much needed support while sleeping. The cover can be removed and washed as needed and the material is sturdy.

I wish that the stuffing was more firm, but it's hard to have a firm body pillow while having it soft enough to go under the belly for support. I really like that it supports different sleep positions. The design follows your body line to give support for neck, belly, back and hips. The shape is curved to accommodate a body naturally.

My wife loved using this since her belly felt supported and there was enough pillow between her knees to keep her legs apart enough to pull pressure off of her hips.

The Dex pregnancy pillow is a perfect option for women that find themselves having trouble breathing in the last stages of their pregnancy.

DEX Pregnancy Pillow

Speaking of pillows, pregnant women are also recommended to not sleep directly on their back in late pregnancy. The weight of the baby puts pressure on her internal organs and can also make her feel faint since a major artery runs through the abdominal area.

This DEX Pregnancy Pillow keeps her sleeping in an elevated position to ease the pressure in her mid section. Another unfortunate symptom of pregnancy is a stuffy nose. Elevating the head also helps her breathe easier through the night as well. This is a 12 x 11" foam that is 4 inches thick on one end while tapering off at the other. You don't need much elevation to get the benefit and it is nice to not sleep as upright as other pillows like this on the market.
