Halloween Party Ideas: Entertainment and Activities

A good idea when throwing a really special Halloween party is going to provide plenty of entertainment and excitement for the guests. There are plenty of traditional activities like bobbing for apples, haunted houses and making witches brew. These are all great but do add some fun twists that guests haven't seen done before.

Show Halloween Movies Outside on a Big Screen

What could be creepier than watching scary Halloween movies outside? The crisp night air combined with the sound of a snapping twig will make for an exhilarating evening. Cook s'mores (with Halloween themes marshmallows) by a fire pit and light up the evening with the glow from eerie jack-o-lanterns.

Have a Fortune Teller

A fun Halloween party idea is to hire a real Psychic to give short readings or have a friend dress up as a spooky fortune teller. As a gag they can tell very scary "fortunes" such as they are going to be hit by a car when they leave the party.

This is a fun activity for kids or adults alike. Let guests make and package their own. Storing it in a test tube can be extra fun but a plastic bag is fine too. This is a great party favor for guests to take home.

  • Non-toxic clear school glue

  2. 2. In a separate bowl mix 1/2 cup glue with 1/2 cup water. Add choice of food coloring.
  3. 3. Mix the two solutions together.

Scare Guests with a Haunted House

A great haunted house is a must. Creating the "house" in a garage or backyard can be a good idea because it's a spacious area and you can use some messier components. Here are some ideas on how to create a scary yet fun haunted house.

Eat Drink and Be Scary!

As if drinking weren't fun enough...

This game is great for a spooky party. A blue rotating light determines who takes a shot. The game makes different screaming sounds just to liven things up. Serve mystery Halloween themed shots to keep things even more interesting. If your party-goers are kids instead of alcohol you can serve scary and gross looking drinks like green Cool-Aid or V-8 juice.

  • 3 cups cranberry juice
  • 1.5 cups apple juice
  • 1.5 cups grape juice
  • 2 cups Pepsi or non-caffeinated Pepsi
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • Vodka (optional for adult parties)

  1. Pour all the juice into a large punch bowl and refrigerate. When ready to serve add Pepsi, strawberries and the hand (pour water with green food coloring into a disposable rubber glove and tie tight). Enjoy!

  • 1 (8ounce) can crescent rolls

  3. 3. Cut each rectangle lengthwise into 8 strips for a total of 32 strips.
  4. 4. Wrap a piece of dough around each hot dog encircling it to make it look like a mummy bandage. Leave a space for the face.
  5. Place on an un-greased baking pan.
  6. 5. Bake 13 minutes or until golden brown in color. Draw a face on the spot you left with mustard. Serve and Enjoy!

Fun stuff. Last year, I had a friend be the fortune teller and gave her insider info on all of the kids, so when she did their fortunes the kids were amazed because she knew which kid plays flute and which kid was a soccer star!

Fabulous Halloween party ideas indeed! I totally agree, a fun Halloween party should have a Haunted House set up, it may be in a garage or even inside the house. The mummy dogs are real fun and yummy. You know what my kids would do with that right? They'll be smilin and have fun biting them until they're gone, hahaha. I'll steal some of these fun ideas for sure; one month more to go, bebe, wohoo! I love the Halloween drinks as well...I'll tell ya what? Why don't I throw a Halloween party then? Melissa, you got me started on this, it's your fault for having such wonderful ideas, hahaha! Great job! Real creatively done! Very cool n' fun lens! God bless you dear! Muah!

It is too bad that Halloween isn't also a Slovenian holiday. It is getting more and more popular (we call it a witch night). This is sometnig that we imported from the States. Some people are aginst it since it has nothing to do with our holidays but my opinion is that there is no harm in adding another fun holiday to our list:).
