Book Holders For Reading

Updated on August 23, 2017

Best Book Holders, Stands And Book Rests - Great Gifts For A Real Bookworm

While book holders for reading make for great gifts for Christmas, birthdays and for 'just because', they also have a very useful purpose: they make it more comfortable for the reader to hold the book or even make for a great free-hand reading experience.

They are also useful reading aids for students for home study. It's no wonder that these book accessories have gained so much in popularity the last couple of years.

When using these holders and stands you avoid having to hold the book in your hands for a long period of time -

Book Stand And Holder For Books

particularly useful if the book is heavy, like a trade paperback or a hardback.

Reading in your favorite recliner or in your bed has never been easier! The book holders keep you from having an aching neck and tired hands and let you really get into the story without annoying discomfort or interruptions.

Here you will find some of the best, most useful and more enjoyable book holders, stands and book rests that are not only perfect for you, but also make for some gorgeous (and rather inexpensive) gifts for a book lover.

The Benefits Of Having A Book Stand To Read Books

I first came across a book stand about 2 years ago when I was in the hospital for a week. I love to read and as knew I had to go to the hospital for some lung problems, I took a few books with me to read there. Afterall a hospital is a very boring place to spend your days at.

The problem was that soon after starting to read, my back and my arm start to hurt quite badly. Due to my lung effusion that I suffered from, I had to be in a very strict position, without moving too much. And reading was quite a chore, let me tell you.

My husband seeing my suffering, went to the local book store and bought me one of these book holders that is easy to use in the bed or the couch. It was not cheap, but it definitely did the job quite well. At least now I could read my book without too much strain. And when I got tired anyway, the holder had actually two different positions that I could switch to for a prolonged session of reading.

While it did the trick for that awful time in the hospital, once I got out I started to research different holders for reading books, and I found in the meantime several that are quite superior to the basic on my husband bought me - although I am eternally grateful to him for helping me even without asking.

I soon discovered that a book holder can serve many purposes enabling me to read regular books of various sizes, from the smallest of paperbacks to huge cookbooks and hardcover novels. A good quality one can also hold eBook readers, like my iPad. And you can read in the bed, on the couch or simply on the chair, especially when the holder has several different positions and both orientations available.

I hope the designs shown below will help you see why such a gadget is simply invaluable for any bookworm or when studying for exams. It helps with arm and hand strain, with back strain and with correct posture as well. And of course, it helps to relax without having to keep that book with both hands at all times while reading a novel at the beach, for example.

Book Holders And Stands

LEVO Hands Free Book Stand for Hard Covers, Paperbacks, CookBooks, TextBooks, Magazines

Now this is what I call awesomeness! An exquisite gadget for the serious reader, one that simply floats in front of you, where you don't have to hold the book in your hands, which makes for the best reading experience ever. You can use it when relaxing on your favorite couch, in the evening for a bedtime reading before sleeping, in the kitchen to follow that new recipe, at home when studying for your next exam while taking notes at the same time, and (my favorite) in the bathtub when relaxing and enjoying your book without tiring your arms needlessly.

It also works with eBook reader if reading these kinds of books is your favorite past-time, which means that it's truly multifunctional. Won't this make for the most awesome, gorgeous and wonderful present as well?

It has adjustable features, such as the height, the tilt, the spin, swing and fold. Perfect for anyone who has problems holding a book in the hands for a longer time due to pain in the neck, back, arthritis and related health issues. Also simply perfect for that extra comfort.

Levo Desk Book Holder

Levo Clamp-on Book Holder
Levo Clamp-on Book Holder

For the cheaper version, check out this desk book holder from the same company. The main difference is that you're not absolutely free to use it anywhere, you are restricted to clamping it on a desk.

The main reason I prefer the previous model - because I can read in my bathtub :-)

Jasmine Book Stand (Bookstand / Bookstands / Holder / Cookbook / Music)

Here is another great book holder/stand with can hold even the heaviest and largest books in place for easy reading or studying. Made of high quality wood, not only it's practical, but it also looks great. You get eye level reading so you don't have to stretch your neck to avoid any discomfort. It has two types of adjustments, one for the height and one for the degree (angle) of moving.

The backing is non-slip and it's very easy to keep clean. The finish is smooth and rounded for a best reading experience (no sharp edges here!). At a great price, recommended a a gift as well.

Bookgem Book Holder

This book stand is officially advertised as eBook stand/holder, however don't let that title keep you from checking it out. It's a great regular book holder for when reading in bed or in your favorite recliner (as seen in the pictures here). And for a low budget spending, it's very cheap too. It has spring-loaded page clips that allow you to read with full comfort as they keep the pages of the book in place. The clips offer multiple angle adjusting so that virtually any paperback/hardback book or eBook reading device will fit snugly without any movement while reading.

When you initially get it, it's very small, but as I mentioned above, you can extend it to fit practically any book (even those large text books) with ease.

Smart And Best Book Stand And Holder For Books And Ebooks

What I like about this book holder is that it can hold practically any book type - including eReaders and notebooks. Yep, a smaller laptop fits on it just right. Many students prefer this gadget as it holds the textbooks neatly in place which makes for easy studying at home. Made of hard plastic, it's sturdy and durable, and quite light and compact.

To adjust the settings all you need is turning a knob. It has a fiber pouch that keeps things from getting scratched. Great as a gift at a great price!

Bookbax: Hand-held Book Holder. Portable Book Stand

If you like a portable book holder that you can actually hold in your hands for easy reading, this one it is. It's small, lightweight and works great in bed or bathtub as well. Of course you can put it on the table without having to actually hold it, but it's awesome that you have the extra option. What's great about this particular book holder is that it also works as a bookmark.

For such a great accessory for reading, it's right now priced incredibly low. Perfect as a gift for a bookworm or student.

Roberts Book Holder

Another of those cute book holders for reading, it is quite simple to use, fits the bill and is not expensive. Easily adjustable, it holds the pages while reading hands free. Can be placed anywhere, on the table, on the bed, so you can enjoy your reading quite comfy. It can even hold magazines and large books. Made of strong plastic, it's very durable. It has a built-in handle and you can even fold it flat.

Bathtub Caddy with Reading Rack

Yet another great idea for those who love reading in their bathtub (like me). I actually have a version of this at home, but it's black (bought it locally a while ago). You can put bath stuff in there, but the most important part: read without holding your book while relaxing in a bubble bath. A great gift for Christmas or other occasions, especially if you know someone who has this habit of reading in the bath.

Under Cabinet Cookbook Holder

What about a book holder for those of love cooking? It's a wonderful gift for Chstimas or birthday, especially that it also extremely useful for making the favorite food without having to stop every 5 minutes to read from the cookbook. Great gadget there!

Cool Book Holders For Reading At eBay

eBay has some great book holders at great prices - sometimes I find unique pieces that I can't find at retail stores, and not even at Amazon. While the auctions come and go, it's always worth checking out for what's available right now. You never know what cute holder for a book you might end up with.

Book Rests

Peeramid Bookrest Pillows

Book rests are another great alternative for reading your books in style and with total comfort. In fact they make some great gifts as well. When friends saw my book rest, some of them claimed to have never seen this type of book holder before. So for a novel idea as a Christmas gift, this is the one!

Very easy to read your book in bed and to shape the rest in an angle that fits your reading preferences quite nicely. It comes in a total of 8 colors, shown below. Made of 100% polyester it actually feels like real suede, a material that I like. You can either place it in front of you in the bed and put the book on it, or put it next to you when you're on your side, or you can even sit in your favorite couch, have the pillow on your knees and book on the top, so you can eat your favorite snack and have your favorite drink without even touching the book when reading. Truly awesome reading accessory.

The Book Seat Book Holder

Now this is a novel idea if I've ever seen one. It molds completely into any shape you want so that it fits perfectly with your reading needs. It is truly a unique gift idea for a reader as it's nothing like the typical book holders or stands. You don't even need a table or a tray to place it on. You basically have your hands free and the pages are open at all times while reading. It even has a pocket for keeping your smaller valuables (ID, credit card, etc) in it. Great for when you're away from home as well.

And just to see how multipurpose this book holder it, you can also use it as a travel pillow during a ride or travel by plane. It's also very easy to store on a handle with its loop carry handle, which can also be used when you're outdoors. Overall a great and novel idea, one that is picking up as we speak.

I can't hold heavy books for long before my hands and arms cramp, so I usually use some kind of book rest. I love the bean-bag style, as they are very comfortable on a lap, and can mold to different surfaces. They are also perfect for tablet computers and ebook readers.

You have book holders here that I have not seen anywhere else with a vast selection of styles to meet anyone's tastes and needs...even a book rest lamp, now that is very clever for saving the binding. Many people have a preference for real books yet and you have the products to pamper them for sure, congratulations on your purple star and home page honors!

I guess I'm a little bias because I've never used a book holder before, but I believe the best way to read a good book is holding it in your hand! I just don't think you can have the personal connection to the book any other way.

The bathroom caddy amuses me greatly. I'd have to try one to see if I found it useful. The one that you can use lying on your side in bed seemed handy.
