September Holidays and Celebrations

Updated on September 28, 2013

Holidays and Celebrations in September

The month of September has so many reasons to celebrate. There's the beginning of school, Labor Day, Grandparents Day, Patriot Day and the Autumnal Equinox. September is a month for celebrating the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, National Children's Week , International Day of Peace and Library Card Sign-Up Month.

Every Day there are holidays and celebrations around the world. For the purpose of this website a "holiday" is any day that recognizes a cultural event and other stuff, but it is not a comprehensive list of Holidays and Celebrations, I include the ones that interest me. I usually don't include religious or ethnic Holidays and Celebrations except the ones I observe. I do include links to other sites that cover other Holidays and Celebrations.

September days are here,

with summer's best of weather

and autumn's best of cheer."

Calendars And Planners For Next Year - Time to order

September is a great time to buy a planner for the new year. I like to use an "old fashion" paper calendar so I just ordered the Weekly Planner for 2013 - 2014. It looks like the perfect tool for a creative person. Would you like to try this one?

September 9 is GrandParents Day!

Grandparent's Day is celebrated in the US in September on the first Sunday after Labor Day. Grandparents Day is a day to tell Grandparents how much they mean to us.

Send your Grandparents a beautiful greeting card with some of your own favorite photos and your own message. And I'll pay for the first 2 cards.

About 3 million "Remembering Grandma and Grandpa" cards are given, nationwide, each year for Grandparents Day. (Source: Hallmark research).

Send a card now! You'll be so glad you did! Request your gift account by clicking the banner...

T

he Birth of the Ice Cream Cone -- September 21

In the myth story of Demeter and her daughter, Persephone was abducted by Hades, the god-king of the underworld. The myth of her abduction represents her function as the personification of vegetation which shoots forth in spring and withdraws into the earth after harvest.

Each Autumn Demeter loses her beloved daughter to the underworld and the vegetation begins to die, the days grow shorter as the sun retreats and the cold winds return.

@anonymous: I had the problem with Chrome also after Squidoo changed their front page. I had to delete Squidoo cookies and cache and that solved the problem.I mostly only feature holidays that I know something about. Even then I don't know much. lol.I've been to NY in the Winter, Spring and Summer, but never in the Fall. I may have to fix that!

I celebrate the few weeks we get here in New York when the tourist traffic is lessened, giving us a little breather along with the cooler weather.By the way, there are quite a few Jewish holidays in September. I know this because my last boss was Jewish, and it was a little freedom to have him away so much for a couple of weeks.(I have to comment as a visitor because Chrome and Squidoo disagree on my computer. Won't let me even get to the login page.)

My favorite Fall holiday? Sept 23rd... my wedding anniversary. Also the first day of Fall, the year we got married. That's why we chose the date. Fall is my sweetheart's favorite time of year. :)

The main day I celebrate in September is my son's birthday. Also September is a great time of year when the weather gets cooler; I really like that. Autumn is my favorite season.
