Labor Day Weekend in Chapman, Kansas

The weekend of Labor Day is a festive time in Chapman, Kansas! The little town where the locals are known as "The Fighting Irish" becomes a center of activity that includes a 5K Run/Walk, a car show, a night time street dance, and a Labor Day Parade as the major events.

With photography as one of my passions, the parade is my favorite thing about the Labor Day festivities in Chapman. I've regularly attended the Chapman Labor Day Parade since 2008 and I've captured some fun and interesting shots each year. Just scroll further down the page to see some of my Chapman Labor Day photos and a link to more of my photos that are posted at the Flickr photo-sharing website.

The Labor Day weekend just wouldn't be complete without the opportunity to enjoy some festival food! Funnel cakes, kettle corn, roasted corn on the cob, lemonade, and root beer are some of the common goodies you can get from the food vendors set up near the corner of Marshall and Fifth Street. What tasty treats should I try this year?

I gotta tell you, Chapman Kansas is the most boring town in the states. I have been here two years, and cannot wait to move away. People are more nosey than friendly, and that is irritating. Even your neighbors don't know who you are, or care to find out. Sad, really. Born in mid-west, lived in West for over 40 years, heading back out that way, where people are sincere and care. thanks.

I'm excited about attending the 2011 parade but hugely disappointed that I have found no mention of my Grandma, Marcella Dreiling, who will be sharing the Grand Marshall role. She deserves that tiny bit of attention as she is 100 years old and lived in Chapman for the better part of her life.
