Chili Pepper Wreaths and Other Chili Pepper Décor

Updated on June 26, 2014

CHILI PEPPER WREATHS - UNIQUE AND GORGEOUS

When we hear wreath, our mind usually jumps to Christmas. We think of the green wreath with some red ribbon. In reality, wreaths have become so much more. Wreaths are created for every holiday and special occasion. There are Halloween wreaths, Thanksgiving wreaths, Valentine Day wreaths, New Baby wreath, Solstice wreaths and, of course, Christmas wreaths. The list goes on and on. Within each holiday and special occasion, you can find all shapes, colors, materials and decorations. When you undertake any wreath project, you are limited only by your own imagination.

One of the more unusual wreaths is the Chili Pepper Wreath. Red chili peppers are commonly used in cooking in New Mexico and other southwest states. The peppers are a beautiful red color and very hot to the taste. It's no wonder that a creative eye transitioned the chili pepper to decorate a Christmas Wreath. There are also numerous items of décor patterned after the red chili pepper. Chili Pepper Wreaths can be purchased (artificial or live) but are also easily made.

PERFECT FOR ANY HOLIDAY - MAKE ONE FOR CHRISTMAS - VALENTINE'S DAY - OR JUST BECAUSE

Let this beautiful wreath with its red chili peppers grace your door on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day - any day!!

CAUTION - DANGER - DANGER

Before we start, a word of caution is necessary. It is very important that you keep your hands away from your eyes and face (and other body parts) after handling the chili peppers. Be sure you thoroughly wash your hands. These peppers are hot - to your tongue and to your skin!

LET'S MAKE A CHILI PEPPER WREATH

You will need:

A straw wreath frame

Floral pins

Dried chili peppers

Florist wire

Scissors

For wreath makers outside of New Mexico (and other regions that grow chili peppers), you can purchase the red chili peppers at stores with an international foods department or some areas have roadside stands.

Okay, are we ready?

l) Cut the florist wire in a length to fit around the circumference of the wreath

Frame

2) Pierce a chili at the stem about ¼" down from the stem cap, run the wire

through the chili and twist the wire around the chili

3) Pierce the next chili and slide it next to the first chili pepper

4) Repeat the process until the wire is gone

5) Using florist pins attach the string of chili peppers to the outside of the wreath frame

6) Make another string of peppers to overlap the first string. The second string should be pinned to the middle of the wreath frame

7) Make the third string of peppers a little smaller than the first two strings. Pin the final string on the inside of the wreath frame

8) You can use the florist wire to make a loop and hang your Chili Pepper Wreath

Now, repeat the process and create more Chili Pepper Wreaths for friends and family.

AGAIN, WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY AFTER HANDLING THE CHILI PEPPERS. These peppers really do burn the skin.

I love the chili pepper wreath but I have not yet made one. I second your recommendation to be very careful working with chilis. I once burned the skin on my hands by chopping these peppers.
