Paper Chain Countdown

A fun way to countdown the days until Christmas with children is to do a fun craft. Glue or staple strips of green and red paper together to make a chain. On the inside of each piece of paper write a fun Christmas activity to do that day. Some examples include:

1. Go sit on Santa's lap

2. Bake Christmas cookies

3. Go present shopping

4. Wrap a Christmas gift

5. Make a gingerbread house

6. Send out Christmas cards

7. Make a Christmas craft

8. Drink a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows

9. Drive around and view Christmas lights

10. Decorate the house in Christmas decor

11. Pick out a Christmas tree

12. Decorate the Christmas tree

The ideas are endless. This is so fun it will become a Christmas tradition that your kids will want to do every year!

Countdown Clock

What better way to track time than to use a clock? This countdown clock to Christmas shows the days, hours and minutes until Christmas is here! It can be reset and reused again year after year. This makes a great stocking stuffer or early Christmas present.

The 12 Days of Christmas Countdown Present Giving

A fun way to pass the days until Christmas is to give a loved one presents on the 12 days before Christmas. 12 days prior they'd receive 12 small gifts and the on Christmas Eve they would receive one present. You don't want to break the bank on this so you don't have any money left for presents on actual Christmas day. However small gifts valued between $5-$10/day can be a fun treat to look forward to. Ideas of gifts include:

  • 12 Pack of beer
  • 11 Truffles from a nice chocolate shop
  • 10 Pairs of socks
  • 9 Songs from iTunes
  • 8 Roses
  • 7 Wine glass charms
  • 6 Coasters
  • 5 Magnets
  • 4 Candy bars
  • 3 Candles
  • 2 Books
  • 1 Real present from their wish list to be given on Christmas Eve

Advent Calendars

Advent Calendars are a fun way to count the days until Christmas is here. Some have messages and others have a spot for a daily chocolate or other treat. The ones with a slot for a treat can be refilled year after year. They're all great Christmas decorations that help track the Countdown to Christmas.

Christmas Craft- Decorate your own Christmas Advent Calendar

This wooden Christmas tree advent calendar is ready for you to paint, decorate and fill with your own personal choice of candy or small surprises. This would be a fun project to do by yourself or as a family. It will be a cherished Christmas decoration for years to come that can continue to be reused and enjoyed.

Chocolate Advent Calendars

An advent calendar with chocolate is a great Christmas countdown calendar for kids and adults. They're fun and delicious. Some have the same type of chocolate every day and others have varieties. There's a choice between having boxes that go in order and others that are out of order and it's like a game of searching for the day. Some of the calendars include poems or Christmas messages inside the flaps. Depending on your desires there's the perfect chocolate advent calendar for everyone.

It's a nice idea to get one for everyone in the family so no one has to share. Or if you want to limit sweets kids can take turns and look forward to their day in the rotation.

Christmas Countdown Chalk Board

A simple and decorative way to track the days left until Christmas is to write the days on a chalkboard. To make the board extra festive wrap the board in Christmas lights or garland.

My kids do look forward to their advent calendars every year. Getting the tree is a big step, and we always go shopping for each other. I really like the countdown clock. They would love having that year round.
