Christmas Gift Ideas for New Moms
What Should You Get a New Mom for Christmas?
Without a doubt, the best Christmas gift ideas for new moms would be a house cleaner, a cook, a nanny, a masseuse, and her pre-pregnancy figure back (or better yet, Gwyneth Paltrow's pre-pregnancy figure).
Since you probably can't give her that until you get that winning lottery ticket, I've come up with a guide of new mom Christmas gifts that you can actually afford - and even order from the comforts of your own home (or office, if that's the case).
Baby Handprint Kit and Frame at Red EnvelopeI know it's a cliche, but it's one of those facts about babies - they grow up so quickly!
A handprint kit is the perfect way for mom to remember forever how tiny those little baby hand and foot prints really were once upon a time.
This easy-to-use kit comes in your choice of 3 frame colors, and includes 4 mat colors - pink, blue, sage and tan, so it's easy to match to your home decor.
You can add a personalized plaque that offers 2 lines of personalization for an extra-special touch.
A gift that any parent (or grandparent) will treasure for years to come!
Five gifts in one! The Tower of Time Kit includes 5 progressively sized handprint kits, so you can preserve the first five years.
Create 2 sentimental ornaments with this easy-to-use kit. Perfect for the Christmas tree or display year round.
New Mom Necklaces
Repeat after me: jewelry is always appropriate for any occasion!
Whether it's a birthday, anniversary, or a little celebration because you didn't burn the muffins this morning, jewelry is a wonderful gift!
For someone's first Christmas as a mom, I would go with a trendy name charm necklace like the ones pictured above. They're all the rage among stylish moms these days
My top choice for new mom necklaces is BlissLiving. They have an amazing selection of necklaces that are sure to delight any new mom.
Their selection includes both sterling silver and gold pendants in a variety of prices. You can add birthstones to many of the pendants, or order without if you prefer a simpler look.
You can also order additional charms for many of the pendants - just in case there's a second baby in the new mom's future!
Stylish contemporary necklace makes a heart-warming present for any special occasion.
Available in your choice of sterling silver, rose-gold or yellow gold plating.
A powerful statement of love! Necklace features 2 parents joining hands with a child to form a heart.
Willow Tree Figurine
Willow Tree figurines are hand carved sculptures by artist Susan Lordi. The simplistic figurative sculptures are meant to convey emotions and feelings about live, relationships, and love.
There are dozens of these delightful sculptures that depict so many of life's important relationships and moments.
Here are two of my favorite Christmas gifts for new mothers:
A new mother will always treasure the memories of cradling her small infant close to her heart.
I love how this figurine conveys the joy, awe and love new parents feel when they cuddle their new baby close.
Collectible Christmas Villages - The Start of a Treasured Family Tradition
The birth of the first child is the ideal time to start your first family Christmas traditions. I know it will be a couple of years before the baby really knows what is going on at Christmas, but by the time they've reached their 4th Christmas, he or she will be so excited to participate in the family Christmas traditions.
My kids' favorite family Christmas tradition is setting up our Department 56 collectible village. My husband gave me my first little Dickens house before we were even engaged.
Each year on my birthday (which is in December) and frequently on Christmas he and the kids give me another house or some figurines for the village.
Our collection has grown to over 30 houses and now takes up an entire side of our family room!
One of the things my kids look forward to each holiday season is setting up the Dickens Village, which by family tradition is done on Thanksgiving day while the turkey is cooking.
When they were young, they loved telling stories about the figurines and the shops. And they've always loved showing off the village to their friends (most of whom were quite jealous that our village was so extensive).
If you start a Christmas village collection for the new mom this year, it's sure to bring years of enjoyment to the family. And it's one of those traditions that can be passed on from generation to generation!
And as an extra bonus for you, you can give a new shop or house each year - so you'll always have a built-in present idea!
You can find inexpensive village collections at your local craft store (Michael's has a great collection).
Department 56 is probably the best-known name in high quality collectible villages. I've highlighted some of the Department 56 collections; they have several to choose from.
I listed the Dickens Village collection first, just because that's what I have.
This series features buildings set in Charles Dickens days of Olde England.
Another popular Christmas village collection is the Christmas in the City set.
This features iconic New York City buildings such as The Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, Radio City music hall, and other scenic buildings.
The Department 56 Snow Village series is a bit more contemporary and has a more casual, fun feel to it than some of the other series.
Pampering Christmas Gifts for New Mothers
The first year of motherhood is a roller coaster of emotions - joy, happiness, love, weariness and stress all wrapped up in one bundle.
Any new mother could use a little pampering to help her relax and regain her equilibrium. A gift certificate for a spa treatment or a manicure are gifts that most stressed moms would enjoy.
Almost all spas and beauty salons offer gift certificates - check the local websites for special offers.
If you live nearby, offer to take care of the baby so that mom can fully relax!
Here are some of my favorite pampering Christmas presents that you can buy online:
I'm sure baby has a special cup - now Mommy can too!
Pair this fun wine glass with a favorite bottle of wine - or a case of wine, depending on how well the baby is sleeping.
Quite a bit less expensive than a full-time masseuse!
This lightweight massage cushion can be used on the new mom's neck, arm, back or legs.
Perfect for home, office, or car.
The perfect relaxing bath includes a book, a glass of wine, and bubble bath.
This elegant bathtub caddy is the ideal holder for everything she needs to relax and soak her cares away.
New Mom Coffee Cup
It takes a lot of caffeine to keep a new mother going all day long! Bring a smile to her face in the morning with a cheerful coffee cup.
A cape is so impractical and hard to match with different outfits, so a Super Power mug is a much better choice for the new mom.
She'll probably be settling for coffee for a few more months!
