Great Menus for Christmas Parties

Updated on September 6, 2014

Entertaining during the Holiday Season

I love to entertain during the Christmas season.  I always look forward to planning my menus and getting ready for my guests to arrive.

I enjoy spending the time with my guests so my menus are set in advance and much of the food is prepared ahead of time so I can spend the maximum time with my guests.

In this lens I will share my menus  that I will use this year to entertain during the month of December.  Each year I try to add a few new items to my menus.  This year I am trying new recipes from fellow lensmasters on Squidoo.  When I show a new menu item, I will feature the lens where I got the recipe from.

I hope you enjoy my menus and please stop by the guestbook and leave your suggestions for party menus!

Merry Christmas!

Photos in this lens are decorations around my house during the Christmas Season.

Celebrating Christmas with Friends - Saturday evening Christmas Party

Our first party each year is usually held on the 1st or 2nd Saturday night in December and is a party for about 40 of our friends.

I keep my menu fairly simple. I have been making cookies, rye bread pizzas and crab puffs in the weeks prior to December and now I am ready to serve them at the party.

The Red Pepper Jelly spread you see on the menu is a very simple recipe. I take 8 oz of cream cheese and blend in two teaspoons of red pepper jelly. I serve this with an assortment of crackers. It is always a hit at the parties and people can't believe how simple it is to make.

My meatballs are also a very simple recipe. I buy a large bag of premade meatballs at the grocery store and heat them according to the package directions in the microwave. I do this about 2 hours prior to the party and then I put them in a crockpot and pour a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's barbeque sauce over them. I set the crockpot on low and they will be ready to eat by the time the party starts. I make sure I have a small dish with red and green toothpicks setting next to the crockpot for easy serving.

For my nut and candy dishes, I like to mix various nuts with red and green M&M's. This year I've also made the chex mix using the recipe on the cereal package and adding red and green M&M's and raisins.

Lenox Christmas Tree Candy Dish - great for serving nuts and candies

I have several small candy dishes like this one scattered throughout our home during the party. Some are filled with nuts and some with the nut/M&M combo.

Christmas Day Festivities

On Christmas Day we host the festivities for both sides of our family. In the morning my husband's family comes over for a Christmas Brunch. We enjoy a hearty brunch buffet before we gather around the tree to exchange presents.

In the late afternoon my side of the family arrives. This time I serve a heavy appetizer buffet. My sister also brings a few goodies to add to the buffet.

Christmas Brunch with Family

Eggs Fantastic

Hash Brown Casserole

Hot Fruit Casserole

Christmas Cookie Platter

Orange Juice

Specialty Coffee

Pfaltzgraff Winterberry Dishes - my favorite winter dishes

I love the Pfaltzgraff Winterberry design because it is so versatile. I use it throughout the winter season. It goes well with all my Christmas serving dishes and the design is subtle enough to work all winter long.

Christmas Evening with Family

Appetizer Buffet

Vegetables and Dill Dip

Sliced Sausage and Cheese Platter with Crackers

Crab Puffs

Dollar Roll Sandwiches with Baked Ham

Red Pepper Jelly Spread with Crackers

Assortment of Christmas Cookies

Homemade Fudge

Special Christmas Platter - great for serving cookies

As you can tell by my menus Christmas cookies are a big part of our celebrations. I start in early November and bake a wide selection of Christmas cookies. This platter would be great to serve Christmas cookies!

Party Tip

When deciding how much food is needed for a party I try to have one appetizer for every 2 people.

Example: A party with 10 people...I would have 5 appetizers. For larger parties I would multiple the recipes of appetizers rather than the number of appetizers. Example: 20 people....5 double recipe appetizers. 40 people...10 double recipe appetizers.

What is your favorite Christmas menu item? - stop by and share your thoughts

While it is truly difficult to choose a favorite Christmas menu item, I guess my personal favorite would have to be Pumpkin pie, simply because Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only times I make them.

One of my families favorites was cornish game hens with stuffing, cranberry relish, mashed potato's with gravy and a big tossed green salad and rolls.

These sound like great apps to serve with cups of warm home-made Boilo for the holidays! When I have the family over I like to make hot crab dip and a cheese ball with bagel chips plus lots of crunchy veggies and yogurt dip.

I like it all. That is any food related to Christmas. The one that comes to mind right now is cookies. I've been writing a bit about cookies (you might have noticed.) How is it, MB, that you always find my lens that I have published before it is finished? Too funny. Anyway, this is a page full of great ideas, well done & blessed.
