Christmas Prayers: 3 Beautiful Sample Prayers
Giving thanks should not stop at Thanksgiving; in fact, it should be amplified at Christmas time! Shout it from the rooftops that you are thankful, be be sure that you are directing that at the right person, our one and only Jesus Christ.
During Christmas time, we are so busy shopping and running around trying to make everything look and feel like Christmas, that we quickly and easily lose sight on what Christmas is actually all about.
Forget the presents, Christmas tree, pretty little decorations, and Santa Claus for just a few moments.
Reasons to Pray
Use this time to say a Christmas prayer, because Christmas is about Jesus, is it not?
It is a holiday because it is the day he was born, not because it was some man made illusion for everyone to shop and get caught up in the pretty box blues. (Although, this is frequently the case…) I call it “blues” because we shop and shop and shop until our bank accounts are drained, all in the name of trying to put a smile on everyones’ faces with things, trivial things.
Things that only make us happy in the moment, then are quickly forgotten. Why are we looking to things for happiness? We should be rejoicing in Jesus Christ for his birthday, all things aside!
So when it comes to saying a Christmas prayer, what is suitable for the holiday? Well, I have a few tips for you in case you need help finding the words to say:
Why we are celebrating: Of course the Christmas prayer should mention why we are celebrating Christmas, and that’s because it is the day of the birth of Jesus Christ! Without Him, this holiday would not be a “thing.”
Thankfulness: What are you thankful for? As stated earlier, you should not stop being thankful merely because Thanksgiving is over and done with. You should be thankful year-round, but especially for this day.
Safety of family: Be sure to add a little thank-you in there for your family arriving safely by your side, and pray for safe travels back home at the conclusion of the celebration.
- Late family members: Holidays can be tough with a recent passing of dear family members, and it usually feels like there is a void in the room without them there. Talking about it in prayer is not only healing during the grieving process, but it can provide assurance that they are still there in Spirit and in the good hands of Jesus Christ. (Lucky for them to be there with Him in celebration!)

Our Christmas Focus
Dear Jesus Christ,
Today we celebrate this day we call Christmas. There is no coincidence why your name is in the holiday name, for you were born on this beautiful day, and it is because of you that we celebrate today and rejoice in YOU! As we sit down for our traditional Christmas meal, let us not forget the important things about today. Let us forget about everything material and all of the distractions put forth unto our people for our focus should be on you! Thank you for everything you did and continue to do for us every single day.
In your name we pray, Amen!
I find it odd today, your birthday, that rather than blowing out candles, you are lighting flames in our hearts to burn for you. We love you so much and wanted to take a moment to wish you a happy birthday on your very own day, Christmas! We pray that those who could not be here with us today are up there celebrating with you and shining down upon us as we remember them and celebrate you. We also pray that our family that could be here with us today makes a safe return back home.
In your Holy name we pray, Amen.
Thank you for this delightful meal that we are about to enjoy in celebration of one of the most important days of the year, your birthday! Merry Christmas to you! Jesus, while everyone is getting caught up in unimportant things on this holiday, I wanted to take a moment and pray that everyone stop and honor you at least for a few moments today, for you are the reason why we are here today, together, in a warm home, surrounded by loving people. We thank you for everything and pray that we use this day to honor you and only you.
There is no perfect Christmas prayer, but just remember; when you’re talking to Jesus, your prayers will be heard no matter what when they are coming straight from your heart!
