As a Dad you will usually be called up to carve pumpkins and possibly decorate the house and yard. You may help your kids find their costumes or even take them to a Halloween party. And don't forget trick-or-treating! How much more fun will it be if you are in the spirit and dress up in your favorite costume.

Going to a rock and roll party? Go as the "groovy guy". You could put a shirt with a suede type vest on and don a pair of bell bottoms if you like - even add a long haired wig and you are good to go. You most likely won't feel like you look too extreme and will be able to relax and have a good time.

Ever had a secret craving to be Superman? Or one of the other superheroes like Batman, IronMan, Captain America or Flash Gordon, or Thor? You just need a pair of tight fitting pants and a shirt with a fancy logo. THe mask is what will define your character and is the most important piece of your costume. It's not only kids that find being a superhero appealing. Come and be the hero of the party, especially with the kids!

The Story of The Origin of Halloween

American Halloween is said to have a Celtic origin. Samhain, the Celtic celebration is a Druidic festival that was to announce the end of harvest. A favorite tale of Celtic folklore is about the faeries that abound during the harvest season as they work together to usher in the winter season.

The tale begins on the eve of the "New Year". This night was the timeline or boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead could become somewhat blurred. On October 31st the Celts believe that the ghosts of the past come back to earth and wreak havoc, doing things

The Celtic story is that on the night before the "New year" was when the boundary between the worlds of the dead and the living starting to become blurred. On Halloween night, OCt. 31st is when they celebrate Samhain. This is the day that the Celts believe ghosts from the past return to the earth and cause trouble like damaging crops.

Another Celtic belief was that when the other-worldly spirits were present the Celtic priests were more easily able to predict the future. Those prophecies provided a sense of stablity, comfort and directiond during the cold and dangerous winter season.

For the Samhain celebration Celts dressed up in animal skins and heads and told each other's fortunes. They also made bonfires that were considered sacred where they would burn crops and animals as sacrifices to Celtic deities.

The people also would relight the fires in their fireplace once the celebration was done, which they had put out earlier. Their beleif was that the flames from the bonfire were sacred and would provide protection for their households during the upcoming winter.

So, the Samhain celebration on October 31 became the precursor to our modern Halloween.
