Curse of Chucky Movie Review

Updated on October 30, 2013

You would never look at another doll the same way again after watching the movie Curse of Chucky! This is a movie review I made about an evil living doll. Find out why this toy is not appropriate for children of all ages.

Childhood Nightmares

This movie go way back through my childhood when I first watched Child's Play which is the first of the movie franchise. This scared me even more when I was kid because I do play with a lot of toys and dolls. I remember putting my favorite dolls and toys away in a box somewhere in the basement for a few weeks after watching this terrifying movie.

The movie is about a doll named Chucky being possessed by an evil spirit. He then goes around in his eerie ways murdering people in the most brutal and creative ways possible. His major goal is one thing only and that is to transfer his soul to a real human body. In the case of the first movie, he wanted the body of Andy, a young boy.

The First Five Chucky Movies

There was actually five movies before Curse of Chucky. This slasher film series was first introduced on 1988, the year I was born. I have to say it scared me all the way to elementary school. Needless to say, I know I was not suppose to watch this movie yet but I did watch a lot of TV back then. I definitely loved the first movie the most because of its brilliant and original story line.

The next two movies featured Chucky's continuing wrath. Child's Play 2 and Child's Play 3 is where the fun all began. Kills became more and more brutal and Chucky's quest to acquire a new human body became more aggressive. Following the first three movies came Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky which for me, lost the essence of a dedicated slasher movie. It became comical and I had a laugh or two instead of the usual scare fest the film series had to offer.

The Curse is Back

I thought the Curse of Chucky movie is a great comeback to the series. For me, it contained more hacking and slashing than any of its predecessors and is a good movie for anybody looking for a good scare and suspense. I also thought the special effects were pretty cool and Chucky looks horrifying (I mean that in good way) although I was more of a fan of the older version of Chucky which looks creepier.

I've watched this movie a week before I started writing this review. The story takes place in an old family house which is somehow isolated and far away from town (an ideal setting for a horror movie). In that house lives a loving and protective mother living with her daughter who is crippled and confined on a wheelchair her entire life. The trouble begins as they received a spooky package which contains a "Good Guy" doll we all know.

Basically, Chucky had an evil purpose for entering into the lives of this unknowing family and proceeds to his killing yet once more. There are a lot of twists and surprises in the story which will satisfy all Chucky fans out there. Even people new to the series will find this movie rather entertaining. The plot is well-made and I would say the scares are pretty frightening overall.

I give this movie 9/10 doll hairs and I definitely recommend you to watch it.

For those people who are new to the series, you can experience the horrific tales of Chucky right from the very beginning up to its spine-chilling sequels. Just be sure your dolls don't do the same to you.

You can watch the trailer here and have a look at the new Chucky and all his menacing deeds.

I've avoided seeing any Chucky movie, LOL but honestly had no idea there were many of them.
