Small Themed Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas - Themes

Who said you should only have one Christmas tree? Not me! Using small Christmas tree decorating ideas is the answer! Creating themes for this small Christmas trees is even better in my book!

Unless you have a very large house though, 3 to 4 foot decorated trees may be a new addition to your Christmas traditions. Consider decorating the house with a few small themed Christmas trees in addition to your main tree.

My family has diverse taste. How do I incorporate everyone's taste and not have a hodge podge tree? We made a deal a long time ago -- the main family tree (the big one in the living room) is decorated with memories: "Baby's First Christmas", Anniversaries, "I made this at school" ornaments, candy garland, personal and personalized ornaments celebrating our years together as a family. It's a great tree and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Additional Small Themed Christmas Trees

are fun for the Holidays!

In addition to our main Christmas tree, we decorate smaller trees for other rooms that show off our taste, hobbies, passions or collections. The kitchen, dining room, family room, guest room, bonus room can all be decorated with a tree dedicated to your favorite subject. We have had many different small themed trees over the years.

The Christmas trees have included a Paris theme, Sports theme, Girly-Girl theme, and a Coca-Cola theme to name a few. The beauty is that you don't get near as much money tied up in decorating a 3 or 4 foot tree as you do the 6 to 12 foot main trees.

Read on for some examples and ideas for decorating your small trees in themes for Christmas!

Retro Tinsel Small Christmas Tree Ideas - Kiwi Green and Silver and cool!

18" Sparkling Kiwi Green and Silver Retro Tinsel Table Top Christmas Tree - Unlit

This little tree can give a retro vibe to your home or the theme you choose to decorate it with. It has a retro/modern feel so whatever direction you choose to go with the theme, it will look great on this kiwi green and silver tree.

This was a fun tree to make. My kids helped me find items to show school spirit.

I had a generic silver bucket I placed the tree in and then covered it with burlap. Here are a list of some of the items we decorated with:

  • To feature the school athletic teams we used: golf ball, basketball, football, baseball, volleyball, soccer ball and a track shoe.
  • Some musical instruments for represent the marching band: trumpet, french horn and drums.
  • We had to honor cheerleaders so we had two small pom poms in the tree.
  • We also used mini bread garland from halloween (since the school colors where black and orange) to dress it up.
  • For the topper, I found a small stuffed tiger. I poked a hole in his tummy and stuck to the top of the tree.

Girly Girl Tree - My daughter had one of these in her room for 3 years. We bought a white 3 ft. tree, pink marabou boa for garland, a yard of fancy-schmancy fabric for the tree skirt, and a ton of girly girl ornaments like this Kirk Adler set of 4 High Heeled Shoes.

It was a hit among her friends and they loved buying her more ornaments to add to each year. This is a really fun Christmas tree theme!

Golf Themed Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas - FORE!

Golf Tree - This was my husbands favorite tree. We had it in his sports room. I used golf balls, divot tools, tees, golf club ornaments, golfer ornaments, golf bag ornaments, and ball markers to decorate it. I also drilled holes thru colored golf tees and strung them 4" apart on fishing line, using a dab of hot glue on either side of the tee to hold it in place. I used an old knit headcover with a pom pom on top as the topper.

Rock 'n Roll Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas - Rock On!

Use music notes, treble clefts, sheet music, horn ornaments and the like.

I think having a small tree in each room, with a different theme, would be great fun this holiday season. One of my favorite themed Christmas trees was the one I decorated in Aggie style when I had a December graduation at Texas A&M University. You have given me lots of great ideas. Thanks!
