Diamantini & Domeniconi Timepieces & Clocks

Diamantini & Domeniconi Make Stunning Wall Clocks

Are you finding holes in your time too? Then you are cut right out for these innovative designs.

I like them for their sense of the unexpected that bears up after time. Since I'm a visual artist, design is important to me, and I especially like freshness in utilitarian objects.

Design without all the frills sparks our own imaginations as we share the mystery of these new clock styles. OK, so I fall prey to occasional poetic writing, to make a point. But Diamantini & Domeniconi have a new wave in clocks that's just right for the 21st Century!

Here's a sketch of the history of their fine designs, since 2005, when Italian designer Pascal Tarabay and other in-house designers presented a novel take on the traditional Cuckoo fussied-up carved and frilled clock.

His model had the familiar profile with the leaves, branches, and antlers, sans the third dimension, leaving it up to the viewer to to supply the embellishments.

Diamantini & Domeniconi - whose clocks are shown here - followed Tarabay's lead and developed a stunning line of contemporary wall clocks.

Have some fun with your visitors, and yourself too, with this lyrical clock from these innovative designers.

The pinched sides tickle me.

Pascal Tarabay's Influence

Until I researched these Italian clocks, from Diamantini & Domeniconi, I pictured them in the fashion of old-time Swiss artisans, working on their cuckoo clocks and bringing their traditional style into the 21st Century, but it's so much more than that.

I was so surprised to learn that designer Pascal Tarabay is younger than my children, well - two years' older than my youngest child. And he's not Swiss either. His ancestry is Lebanese, actually born in Beirut in 1970.

He studied design in France before moving on to graduate studies. After getting his Masters degree at the renowned Domus Academy, he refined his vision and styles, with a masterful touch.

His work at Diamantini & Domeniconi was instrumental in refocusing the company into doing reinterpretations of classic design and plunging into unknown clock territory. They chose sophisticated humor as their theme, and business took off, with some of the cut-outs from their clocks!

Irony is Important to Diamantini & Domeniconi

First Depiction of a Cuckoo Clock - from the 17th Century

This real craftsman's clock from 1650 is the real mechanical deal. It is an engraving of an early - but not the first - Cuckoo Clock.

Although people tend to believe (I did) that these clocks were invented in England's Black Forest, in 629 Philipp Hainhofer of Augsburg wrote a description of a clock that fits the cuckoo's description.

I include this tidbit here because of Parabay's innovative Cuckoo Clock design, a clear take-off on the traditional style.

Back to Nature Cuckoo Clock - Another Take on Sleekness - by Diamantini & Domeniconi

This Cuckoo Clock reminds me of a tuxedo front that's all dolled up. I find it suited to both a feminine female and sophisticated male decor.

Diamantini & Domeniconi Toc Clock

I find the innovation of this clock idea too much to resist. Guests will do a double take.

The main appeal it holds for me is the suggestion to hang it up near the ceiling, out from the wall a few inches or more. Attached so that it can pivot, like an actual pendulum, in a breeze from an operating ceiling fan or from an open window on a windy day.

In this delightful reversal - the pendulum is the clock. A gift of spontaneity for the art lover.

Diamantini & Domeniconi Half Time Clock

I'd never have expected to find a modern cuckoo bird popping out from the side of a clock, but that's just the way it is on this one.

It looks like a chic contemporary wall-mounted mailbox, and to look at it from the front visitors will be surprised as it springs to action.

For a humorous twist, give this sort-of cuckoo clock! Look at it from the side because the cuckoo comes out from there. It reminds me of an old-time wall mounted mailbox. They will love this gift.

Diamantini & Domeniconi Butterfly Clock

It's always exciting to find something as unexpected as butterflies lifting off parts of the face of a clock.

This remarkable design comes in white also, for a sleek but sprightly feel on a dark wall.

Diamantini & Domeniconi Bricchetto Clock White

I like the play of this clock on an organic form of a log section. It's monochromatic, but with a festive touch - a little red cuckoo that pops out and plays the hour.

Understated pleasure punctuated by a spark of color.

I can't help but chuckle at this clock that doubles as a coat hook.
