DIY Fillable Ornaments

Updated on July 10, 2014

Make Your Own Fillable Ball Ornament - Easy and Fun Christmas Craft!

This DIY Christmas craft project is fun and easy for all ages! Using acrylic fillable ball ornaments, you can create your own personalized and special ball ornament for your Christmas tree, simply by filing the ornament with items special to you or the person for whom you are making it! From simple colorful paper to more complex dioramas, making your own homemade fillable ornament is a fun way to say Merry Christmas!

This project takes less than a half hour to complete and is suitable for all ages with supervision. It is ideal for school groups, scout troops, senior groups and family time. You can personalize the materials to your own interests and budget and create a beautiful lasting fillable ornament in just a few minutes!

Step One: Select Your Fillable Ornament - Start with Clear Plastic Acrylic Fillable Ball Ornaments

First, you'll need to select your fillable ornaments. The classic ball shape in sturdy plastic acrylic works best for this project. The package comes as a unit of 12 and is a good start for a small group, or if you want to make a matching set of a dozen ornaments.

Step Two: Select Your Fillings

What will you put inside?

Now that you have your ornament, you'll need to chose what to put inside. This is where you can really get very creative!

One idea is to fill up the entire ornament, leaving no space, with a particular small object, which can create a really beautiful look. This is great to do with small items such as hard candy, buttons, beads, small toys, yarn, and more. Try alternating colors or sizes for a neat look.

Small Candy For Fillable Ornaments - A great gift idea!

To fill your ornament with candy, use small pieces or types of candy and fill the ornament all the way up from top to bottom. Remember, if you're going to use candy, you can open the ornament and enjoy it on Christmas, than reuse the fillable ornament again next year! This makes a lovely gift addition.

Small Toys For Ornaments

Delight the child in your life by filing an ornament just for him or her with small toys. If you choose a toy your child is especially into this year, and make a new ornament every year, these ornaments make a lovely memory marker as your child grows up. Don't forget to make the date with a permanent marker - use red or green or gold!

Step Three: Present Your Ornament!

You can present your ornament by tying a ribbon to the top and hanging it on the tree, or by wrapping it up and giving it as a gift. Whichever method you pick, I'm sure your gift recipient will love it!

Yes, I have done this craft and hope to do it many times more. What I like about this gift is that you can make it as individual as the person, so all of them will be unique.
