Elf Costumes For Christmas Fun
Need An Elf Costume?
Are you going to dress up as an Elf this year at Christmas? If so, you will need to make your own costume or purchase one an online costume store...you know, Costume Craze, Buy Costumes, Spirit Halloween, there are so many to choose from. But the good news is you can find several different style outfits to choose from, so all you have to do is pick one and purchase it.
Or you can make an elf costume using clothing you most likely have stuffed away in your closets or drawers. The picture of the elf up top shows a great looking collar made from a piece of fuzzy fabric.

What You Need To Make Your Own Elf Costume
The Christmas Elf costume I am familiar with consists of:
- Bright Colored Tights Or Pants
- Shoes With Curled Up Toes
- A Santa Hat - Or One That Looks Like It
- A Green Or A Red Sweatshirt
- A Fuzzy Piece Of Material Cut To Fit Around The Neck Of Your Shirt
- A Black Belt
- Bric-Brac From A Fabric Store
- Bells
- Fabric Glue Or A Needle & Thread
Take a look at the pictures I've posted below to get an idea for your costume. Pick the one you like best and then copy the design using the clothes you found.
Your top and tights can also be striped if you like.
Glue or sew the bric-brac onto the bottom of your shirt. Some like to cut the bottom of the shirt in a v like pattern to give the shirt a jagged looking edge. If you like the big fuzzy collar, cut it to fit around the neck of your shirt and glue or sew it on.
You can hang bells from your curled shoe tips and from the bric-brac...if you like you can also add one or two to your hat.
Put your outfit together and then try it on. Add the big black belt to finish the look.
If you know how to sew you can get an elf costume pattern at your local sewing supply store or online at Amazon. It's Simplicity Pattern # 4393. This pattern will help you make an outfit like Buddy wore in the movie, Elf.

The picture up there is just one of the many costumes you can find at your regular costume seller's online store. It's adorable and it comes with the dress, the hat, and the belt. You can also find curled toe shoes to match. Add a pair of tights and your costume is complete.
Of course, you can put this outfit together if you have these items in your closet or up in the attic. Look around, it's easy to make your own elf costume. If you have a green dress, a black belt, and some striped stockings you can embellish them with a nice red ruffle at the hem line, some very cute stickers would make great buttons, add a Peter Pan color, find a Santa Hat and you've got the look!
You Sit On A Throne Of Lies - Buddy The Elf
These two elf costumes are classics, thanks to the movie, Elf. That's Buddy up above and his girlfriend Jovie, below. They aren't really elves. Buddy was taken to the North Pole by mistake when he was just a baby. He was raised by Papa Elf and when he grew up he found out that he was a human. He met Jovie in New York City when he was searching for his Dad.
Jovie gave the lady elves a bit of fashion and color with this pretty pink dress.
What Is An Elf?
The elf costumes I am describing are Christmas elves. According to folklore the elves usually wear green, although as you can see, red works just as well ... and in the case of Jovies outfit, so does pink. Elves usually have pointed ears and they work in Santa's toy shop making toys.
A perfect example is from my favorite Christmas movie...just watch Elf and you will see these helpers making toys and helping Santa get ready for his world-wide Christmas Eve run to deliver toys.
