Family New Year's Eve

Updated on December 19, 2014

Happy New Years Family Style

Going out on New Years Eve can be fun but have you ever thought about planning a festive family New Years Eve party for all ages?

You can whip up everyone's favorite snacks, make some punch, play games and take some awesome photos.

These are the family times that wonderful memories are made of.

Planning the Party

A well planned party will be fun for all ages, make sure to have some activities that even the youngest child will have fun doing. Here are some of the things you should have on you list:

1. Snacks and favorite foods to serve.

2. Homemade punch or juice for all ages

3. Games and events

4. Prizes (little things make it so much more fun)

5. Party hats and noisemakers

6. Camera - these memories will last a lifetime

7. Decide on a bedtime- remember, New Years can be celebrated whenever you say!

Party Food!

Have fun with the family creating some great party food for all--the kids will have a blast!

Special Snacks

(potato chips and pretzels don't count!)

Everybody Makes a Pizza!

Enough precooked pizza dough in the individual size so that everyone can create their own.

1 Jar of Marinara or Pizza Sauce

Large bag of shredded mozarella cheese

Different Toppings - mushrooms, bell peppers, pepperoni, crumbled cooked sausage, uncooked shrimp (will cook in the oven)

Let everybody make their own pizza by putting the sauce on with their favorite toppings. (An adult should do the cooking) The small pizzas need less cooking time so keep an eye on the progress. Usually takes about 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

1 pkg mini hot dogs

2 pkgs refrigerated cresent rolls

Open roll packages and cut each roll triangle into three triangles.

Roll each mini hot dog into a triangle of dough.

Bake at 375 degrees on a baking sheet until roll begins to brown--approximately 15 minutes.

Rice Krispie Treats

Made Special for New Year's!

Rice Krispie Treats (kids love 'em and Dads can't eat enough!)

Take the original recipe from the box of cereal.

Instead of putting the mixture in a pan, form the numbers of the NEW YEAR (2012,2013 etc.) on a pan covered with foil.

Really will make a sweet start to the New Year!

Party Punch

This is Yummy!

Family Party Punch

1 (64 fluid ounce) bottle fruit punch

2 pints mixed fruit flavored sherbet

1 pint strawberries - washed and remove the stems

1 2 liter bottle of Ginger Ale

Add the cleaned strawberries and sherbet to the fruit punch in a punch bowl. If you don't have a punch bowl a nice large pot or mixing bowl will do just fine.

Slowly pour in the ginger ale and enjoy.

Games for all!

For all ages to have fun!

Plan your games ahead of time. Since it will be later in the evening it might be best to play games where the kids are not too active. Guessing games, trivia and drawing games are always fun. Little prizes are a hit but make sure everyone knows that you can only win one prize each!

Some examples of fun games:

How Many are in the Jar?

Fill a jar with a screw top with hard candies or peanuts in the shell. (make sure to count them)

Pass the jar around and let everyone write down or whisper to you how many they think is in the jar.

The winner is the closest guess without going over!

Family Trivia

Make up 5 - 10 questions appropriate for the age group.

Read the questions and have them write the answer on a paper.

The most right answers wins.

Examples of questions:

  1. How many dwarfs were friends with Snow White?
  2. How many planets in our solar system?
  3. What month is different during leap years?

Small Prizes are Great

There are two ways to give out prizes. One way is to just hand the winner a small prize but there is a better way. Wrap all the prizes and let the winner pick a prize at the end of the game. They can shake it and feel the wrapping but not open it. If they woulld like to trade it for any prize that someone else has won, they can! Just adds some spice to the game for older children.

Great Party Supplies

(at good prices too)

It is almost time for the majic hour and everyone to make merry. What fun to put on a New Years party hat and make lots of noise with a paper horn or a kitchen pot with a big spoon. Yelling HAPPY NEW YEAR and hugging your loved ones is the best reason to have a family New Years Eve celebration. It is majical and something that will make the happiest memories of all.

Really? Are they going to celebrate New Year's again? We did that last year. Is this an annual holiday or what?

      I think I'll cook a pizza.

I'm thinking that a lot of your ideas don't need to be limited to New Year's Eve for a special family night activity. Nicely done for plenty of memorable fun...blessed!

Since we've had children, we always spend it with them, and other families and I have to say I enjoy it so much more! The best one yet, was a backyard bonfire and tobaganing down a homemade sliding hill! Kids & Adults had so much fun and a heated garage helped for snacks and drinks. Those are memories!

There is nothing better than spending New Years Eve with family and friends! Our friends also have a big "balloon net" that holds a lot of balloons which they attach up high and open at midnight for their family new years eve party! It is always a lot of fun! Great lens!

I read a nifty idea somewhere. Have everyone write down a prediction for something they think will happen in the new year. The next New Year's Eve, get them out and read them to see if any came true (and to have a good laugh).
