Festive Christmas Holiday Mugs

Updated on January 31, 2015

Festive Mugs for the Holidays

I love to collect mugs and have an entire cupboard overflowing with them. To me, one of the best ways to relax is to make a mug of coffee or hot chocolate and settle in with one of my favorite mugs. Festive holiday mugs can be a great way to get into the holiday mood and can be a lot of fun for your guests, too.

Whether you're a fan of snowmen, Santa Clause, Christmas trees, or anything else Christmas related, there's a holiday mug for you. And, since winter is cold, it's a great time of year to make that steaming mug of hot chocolate.

These holiday mugs can be extra nice, because you usually only bring them out at Christmas time. It makes them special mugs instead of your everyday coffee mugs. They're also a great present for someone or can make a great decoration for around your house.

Snowman Mugs

Snowmen are a classic winter theme. If you live somewhere cold, chances are you've made a snowman at some point. A snowman mug can bring back fond childhood memories of playing outside and building snowmen with your friends or family. They're also great for the whole winter season, rather than just Christmas time. And, as an added bonus, they're more neutral since they represent a time of year rather than a religious holiday. This makes them great to bring out if you have friends who do not celebrate Christmas, but you still want to have a whimsical themed mug.

The first official record of a snowman dates back to 1380. It is shown in an illustration in the margin of a work called "Book of Hours," which is now kept in The Hauge.

Santa Clause Mugs

As the traditional bringer of presents, who doesn't love Santa Clause? There are many different theories of the exact origin of Santa, but the Christmas figure has certainly been around in one form or another for many years. I like to focus on the deeper meaning of Christmas, but Santa and what he represents is still a fun part of the holiday. I used to love setting out a huge plate of cookies for him (my parents weren't always so happy about that) and trying to stay awake until he came. I was convinced I would hear his reindeer on our roof. Of course, I always feel asleep. But that's the magic of Santa Clause! A Santa mug is a fun way to celebrate the holiday and is especially great for kids.

Snowflake Mugs

Just like snowmen, snowflake mugs are perfect for the entire winter season and are neutral for any religion or traditions. Curling up on a cold winter day with a snowflake mug is a great way to relax and stay warm. Its extra nice if you've just come in from a long day of playing outside in the snow. I don't have any snowflake mugs in my own collection yet, but these are all cute and would make a perfect gift for any mug lover or snow lover in your life.

White or Green?

Every year in our house we argue about whether it will be a white or green Christmas. We can never agree on what we want. Personally, I always enjoy a white Christmas because it is more traditional. I don't want piles of snow, but just enough to cover the grass is nice. A couple of years ago, we had the perfect Christmas Eve with lightly falling snow and absolutely no wind. It's my favorite type of snowfall because it's so peaceful.

Reindeer Mugs

Reindeer are a classic symbol of Christmas. They're cute and cuddly and really, who doesn't love the idea of animals who can fly? Reindeer mugs are great for children and adults alike, especially right at the Christmas season. There's lots of options, from realistic reindeer to cartoons, to bright red-nosed Rudolph mugs.

Santa's reindeer are: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph. Did you get them all?

Christmas Decorations Themed Mugs

Trimming the tree is one of my favorite Christmas traditions. For the past few years, we have gone to a farm and chosen and cut down our own tree, then sit around the fire and roast hot dogs and drink hot chocolate. It's always a great day and even though we're freezing at the end of it, we go back every year. A few weeks later, it's time to decorate the tree. Even though I usually get tired half way through, I never want to give up the job to someone else. We have boxes full of unique decorations and I love putting them all on the tree. They're each a unique memory. A Christmas tree mug can be a great way to remember all the fun you have decorating for the holiday.

Though it is not known for certain, most people believe that Eggnog was first made in England.
