Tropical Florida Christmas Decorations for Your Tree

Christmas in Florida with warm weather, bright sunshine and Santa. Decorating the tree for the holiday can be a fun excursion into kitsch or go classy with seashells and handmade ornaments.

I've lived in Florida for eight years now and it just didn't seem right to decorate with snowmen and traditional ornaments when it was 75 degrees outside. I'm all in favor of adding some palm tree ornaments and sea shells to get a Florida flavor going.

Whatever suits your style, there are plenty of terrific ornaments with a coastal or tropical theme for the Christmas tree. Make your tree a Florida extravaganza for this holiday.

Wouldn't You Love a Coastal Themed Christmas Tree!

My aunt lived near the coast for over 10 years. Her tree reflected that location with beach themed ornaments. Isn't it a delight!

Sea Shell Christmas Ornaments

Lovely, delicate-looking blown glass like in the old days. Isn't this one a beauty! It would fit right in on my aunt's tree above. The shadings of color make it pretty realistic.

You can turn all those seashells you collected at the beach into lovely Christmas ornaments. Her technique uses simple supplies and easy-to-follow steps. The seashells add some glitter but still retain their natural look.

Sometimes I just nestle a larger shell into the branches rather than hang it on a limb of the tree.

Santa Riding Manatee Tropical Christmas Ornament - Perfect for the Florida themed Christmas tree

Floridians love their manatees, so combine a manatee with Santa and you have a iconic Christmas tree ornament.

The other name for manatees is sea cows. They are a placid creature and people like to swim with them in lagoons.

Make an Edible Christmas Tree - with Florida strawberries

Not far from where I live in Florida is the main strawberry growing area for the state. With the mild weather Florida has, the strawberries are harvested much earlier than other parts of the country. They even have a Strawberry Festival at Plant City each year.

Pink Flamingo Ornaments Are Perfect for the Florida Tree

They really are pretty, colorful and oh-so-Florida.

Here Are the Flamingos in Real Life

I took this picture at Gatorland, since the flamingo is more often seen along the coast, not in Central Florida where I live.

Ah, here's a flamingo that knows how to relax. Pink and lime green are popular colors in Florida. Perfect for your tree!

Besides the iconic bird, you have one doing a very Florida activity (lounging around by the pool while reading a book).

If you've never seen a live flamingo, they are just as pink as this one. Amazing bird with the long legs and curving neck.

I'm sure Santa needs a Florida vacation after being at the North Pole all winter. This ornament has it all: palm tree, sand, tropical drink, flip flops, shorts and beach themed shirt.

Santa and Reindeer and Water Sports

Think of boating, surfing, water skiing, jet skis, swimming, etc.

How fun! Santa has his sunglasses on and is enjoying the day out on the water with a jet ski.

Actually this one is fun even if you don't live in a coastal area. I have friends who live on a lake or go to the lake on weekends. This ornament would bring many happy memories as they hang it on the holiday tree.

Of Course, You Have to Have Some Disney Ornaments

I live just south of Orlando, so naturally I need some Disney figures on my tree. You don't have to live here though to love Disney. My nieces and nephews would be thrilled to get one of these as they are big Disney fans.

Search for Ornaments for Your Favorite Disney Character

It doesn't have to be a Mickey or Minnie Mouse ornament. You can find ones for Snow White, Cinderella, and other favorites.

You can do a whole tree in Disney. Just start with Mickey and Minnie. Then of course, you'll want all the favorite characters from the Disney movies. Be prepared, though, the children may want to keep them on display all year long.

Mermaid Christmas Ornaments - These Certainly Fit the Florida Themed Christmas Tree

Long before Disney and the Disney movie about Ariel the mermaid, there was the Weeki Wachee Mermaid underwater show that drew tourists in Florida. Check out the video I've included below to see them in action.

Beautiful blown glass and wonderful color. Your granddaughter will name this ornament Ariel and beg to take it home with her.

It's perfect for a Florida holiday tree.

Learn all about the Weeki Wachee Mermaids in this short video. The performers are able to stay underwater for quite a while since they have small breathing tubes for them to get more oxygen at intervals.

Colorful Tropical Fish - Fit the theme for a Florida Christmas tree

If you can't make it to the ocean, bring the ocean life to your tree. You can find fish in exquisite blown glass ornaments or in hand-carved wooden ones in natural or painted wood.

Tropical Fish Are Great for a Coastal Themed Christmas Tree

Look for ornaments to hang on your tree that represent the wonderful variety of tropical fish. They really make me think of the Sunshine State.

Coastal Themed Christmas Ornaments - for a Florida tree

It's so much fun to plan for a themed tree. Flip flops, crabs and a woody station wagon all remind us of the beach. Don't forget to add a sea turtle and a seahorse ornament for the full Florida experience.

Actually this coastal look would work in many areas besides Florida. Perhaps you live on the west coast, along the Gulf coast or by the Eastern seacoast. You don't even have to live by the coast. If you take your vacations to the beach, you can celebrate that special time with beach decor on your Christmas tree.

Well, here's something you won't see every day. Not even at Gatorland.

This alligator has the true holiday spirit with a Santa hat on his head and a big toothsome smile on his face. Best of all, he's brought a big bag filled with presents.

Cute! We have some Florida-y ornaments for our tree, like Santa at the beach and sea shells and flamingos.
