It means I go our and buy two pounds of chocolate bars, put them in an orange bowl, and on November 1rst we eat them ourselves because kids are too scared to come to our door.
I know what you mean, Pam. When I got my own place hidden in the apple orchards in upstate New York, most didn't know that it existed. I never locked the door at night--that should just about settle it

It's like that here too. You can barely see the house from the road and there's no sidewalk. So we never get even one single kid.
Lots of rabbits though. YES! I bet they increase in numbers every day
For a while when I was having suspicious recurring problems with my car, I suspected that those same rabbits were stealing my parts in the middle of the night...They must work for my mechanic Ahhh, it's one of the greatest holidays ever creaaaated. I can dress up as I please, scare people and children...be out under the full moon on an icy night. Sure, I can do that any full moon with cold weather but it means more on Halloween.
I should crack out the Ouiji board for giggles.Oh, I like Halloween! I like scary stories and ghost stories and things like that. I love the way people dress up for Halloween; people in stores, sometimes people at work, and just make it a fun, fun day.
I used to love the kid visits, with their cute costumes, and a great chance to pass out candy to kids--nothing more fun than treating a little kid in a costume--but that kinda went away. People are scared for their kids' safety, and that's a shame. The kids still have parties at their homes or at school, so the kids don't completely miss out. I like that all the neighbors are out with their kids, and that because everyone knows everyone else (even if they aren't hanging out with them the rest of the year) it's the one time of year when the quiet neighborhood is filled with parents and their kids just having this nice time.
We usually get a huge bunch of kids; but one year it had rained a lot, and a giant, flood-like, puddle formed at the end of my driveway and lawn. Only two or three kids found a way to get to the door. I could hear the rest saying they couldn't go through the water. I was disappointed that "nobody" came - but, of course, it was a great year for leftover candy. I actually considered delivering it to their mailboxes (but I couldn't be bothered ).
