   How many trick or treaters did you get this Halloween?
   
   We only got about 40 to 45 which was a little low this year. Is trick or treating not as popular as it used to be?

   We used to get so many round our way, but according to my hubby, I was out, we didn't get any! the trouble is where we live its a bit back from the road, so most kids tend to head for the easier roads, its such a shame, I did have some sweets in for them, my friends husband took their two girls out and did really well though!

      I'm guessing that parents are going to friends and family more and less door to door.

   We didn't get any trick or treaters.  We live in an area where we are away from our neighbors.

      Even in heavily populated neighborhoods, the amount of trick or treaters seems to be declining. Maybe less sugar and more parties is the trend. We'll see.

   We go to my mother-in-law's for trick or treating, which is usually very busy in terms of trick or treaters, but this year the extreme cold and snow kept most of the princesses and superheros somewhere else warmer.

      Yes, it was a bit chilly here, so maybe that was another reason.

   In our neighborhood most resident's children are grown and have moved out so we haven't had any children in recent years.  In fact, in the last 5 years we have probably had a total of 3 or 4 trick or treaters stop by.  As a result we usually leave home around 6:30 or 7:00 after finishing dinner and go to friends house who usually have a number of children stop by.  However, this year only a handful showed up in their neighborhood.
   
   Some of this may be fewer children (high unemployment among young adults has resulted in many putting off getting married and having children) as well as the children going to private parties or the growth of business groups and other organizations organizing centralized treat giving.  Both of these new practices avoid the risk of children running across streets and getting hit by cars as well as the risk of receiving tainted treats (such as razor blades inserted in candy)  from sociopaths as sometimes happened in decades past.

      Thanks for your insight, Chuck. You make good valid points. Kids in our neighborhood are older and those who do trick or treat tend to come with parents, which is good to see. I think parents are more cautious now than ever. Thanks again for your com
