Halloween Costumes for Dogs

Updated on April 17, 2013

For Halloween This Year, I'm Going To Dress Up My Dog!

As you can see from this picture, my dog Sydney was not thrilled in her role as a dragon sidekick (my son dressed as a knight that year), but everyone who saw her loved it.  I made this costume myself using a commercial pattern and had fishing line attached to the wings so I could make them flap as we walked along.  It was hysterical.  She felt less than dignified though, and it showed.  We still have the costume, and when she sees it come out of the box, she heads in the other direction.  Any direction, as long as it is AWAY from the foul thing.

There are tons of costumes available for your dog to wear in all sizes, shapes and themes.  Below, I have grouped them into categories so you can find just what you are looking for.

Be sure to scroll down to see the knight vanquishing the fearsome dragon!

Star Wars Dog Costumes

Let Fido Channel the Power of the Force!

Let your pooch channel the power of the force, with these Star Wars themed dog costumes. They are available in a variety of sizes to fit your canine.  The main decorative section of these costumes is attached to a shirt that slips over your dog's body making your dog look like a miniature version of the Star Wars character they are wearing. These are among my favorite dog costumes - I like them so much, I almost wish I had a third dog to complete the set.

Transform your dog into another species with these fun critter costumes!

Have you ever wanted a shark for a pet? A stegosaurus? Dress up your dog for Halloween (or anytime just for fun) in one of these adorable critter costumes! The ones shown below are just some of the many dog costumes that are animal themed. How cute is that bee (and you don't have to worry about the stinger)? If you dress up your dog as a shark, you can play the Jaws theme as you walk around. *grin*

It's a Bird...It's a Plane...

No...it's Super DOG!

Is your dog a superhero in your eyes? Or maybe you are just a superhero loving nerd. Whatever the reason, these superhero costumes for dogs are great fun. Whether you like the Dark Knight, have a spidey sense or want your pooch to channel girl power, there is a costume to fit your needs. They come in different character styles and sizes. Be sure to read the size charts closely to make sure you are ordering the correct size.

Watch Dog!

This one cracked me up! Especially because my dog would be a watch dog only in the sense of licking the robbers to death as they carried out my valuables.

Hot Diggity Dog Costume

Turn your weiner dog into a weiner with ketchup (or mustard)! This costume is perfect for long bodied dogs such as Dachshunds.

Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum...

Pirate Costumes for Dogs

Take your dog on an adventure fit for a pirate with one of these pirate themed dog costumes! They might even swab the deck for ya (with their tongues, of course). There are several different styles of pirate costumes for both male dogs and female dogs.  My favorite is the first one with the hook and the parrot on the hat.

Bad to the Bone!

Have a naughty dog? These are perfect for trouble making dogs!

While your dog may look innocent to others, you know the truth! Show the world your dog's true colors on Halloween. Choose from different styles of devil, prisoner and "bad boy" costumes.

See?

That hat hit the dirt about 1.2 seconds after this picture was taken. Heh.

The Knight and the Fearsome Dragon!

What do you think of dogs in costumes?

Hilarious or cruel and unusual punishment?

Have you dressed up your dog? Do tell!

Hahahah I love the picture of Sydney... such barely-gracious tolerance of this assault on her dignity! If I put a costume on my dog, he'd immediately find a way to eat it. Sometimes he does that with his collars.

I liked your lens, you don't often see dogs dressing up for Halloween, so this is a pretty cool idea!

Your intro made me laugh out loud. I can just imagine those dragon wings flapping. These are the best dog costumes I've ever seen and your comments make it even more entertaining.

Those are some great Halloween Costumes for Dogs but I am afraid that our Miss PittyPat would be like your Sydney and not enjoy it very much.

We also had a crazy Jack Russell terrier that would let my daughter dress her. She loved to wear Disney Princess wigs. Our current dog (Lab/Greyhound mix) loves to dress up. His best costumes have been a ballerina and of course a horse. If he could pick, I think he would choose your Mardi Gras Dog Costume - Mr. Jester Dog Costume . He's just funny like that.

Actually we never dressed up our dogs when we were young. Our first dog was a Jack Russell terrier mix and was too crazy to try putting costumes on! Now I have cats, and apart from being terrified of Halloween and trick or treaters, they just wouldn't consider a costume worthy of them. But my neighbor has a little dachshund that sure would make a good "hot dog"!

My husband won't even consider letting me dress up our dog, although I think she'd be cute. Of course she's cute au natural, too. :) Fun lens!
