Information About Martin Luther King Jr.

Born on January 15, 1929, Martin Luther King Jr. grew up to become a Baptist minister as well as an important civil rights activist. He believed in racial equality which means he thought that people should be treated equally no matter what their race.

He was known for his nonviolent approach and in 1964, he became the youngest person to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize. Through his many efforts, he was able to break down many racial barriers. Sadly, on April 4, 1968, he was assassinated.

Even though he is gone, his efforts live on today and he is considered one of the greatest Americans who ever lived.

I grew up with my Mom saying some day her birthday would be a national holiday, she was so pleased to share the same birthdate as Martin Luther King Jr.....the scripture "...born for such a time as this." seems to fit him well...and his legacy goes on. I just heard on the news tonight that for the first time in history there will be two black men serving at the same time in the U. S. senate, change is coming slowly that Martin Luther King Jr worked for. I've FB'd this an am adding to my African Americans lens....thank you for this delight!
