Brandon began working online 5 years ago when he left his old and boring Finance job. He now works at home with his wife and five kids.

Love your geek? Here's a look at 15 of the hottest tech, gaming, and Star Wars gift ideas for the end of 2017.
Love your geek? Here's a look at 15 of the hottest tech, gaming, and Star Wars gift ideas for the end of 2017.

When I was young I tried to hide my eccentric personality. As I got older I learned to love that part of myself. Even my wife doesn't mind it. Being a geek is a lot of fun. I get to travel around to different Comic Cons, play games, and do the things that I think are fun.

While it's fun to be a geek we can, at times, be difficult to shop for. We're distracted by a multitude of hobbies, shows, and anything technology related. Although I certainly can't cover gift ideas for everything, here are a few popular items most of us are excited about in 2017.

2 Good Gifts for Pokémon Lovers

Pokémon Go has been an unprecedented success. If you've got someone in your family that geeks out for Pokémon, it's likely they're looking for something related to the franchise this Christmas. Here's a look at a couple items that likely on their must-have list in 2017.

The Go Plus allows you to play Pokemon Go without having the application on.

Nintendo Pokémon Go Plus

While the Pokémon Go Plus is now on the market, the first waves that hit the shelves went to consumers that preordered.

That being said between now and Christmas time it's likely that more will appear.

What is Pokémon Go Plus?

One of the big issues with Pokémon Go since it's launch is that you have to keep the app open in order to play. Unfortunately, the app also drains the battery of your phone quickly.

The Pokémon Go Plus accessory helps with both of these. It allows you to catch Pokémon with the click of a button as well as hit all the local Pokéstop locations without having your phone on.

It's compatible with any smartphone and a must-have for any serious Pokémon Go player.

Pokémon Sun and Moon

It's been a few years since we've had a serious new launch in the Pokémon 3DS game franchise. This year we get Pokémon Sun and Moon as well as some new Pokémon, including starters, and areas to explore to go with it.

Dozens of new monsters and regional variants have been added to the game. Like games of the past the game will focus on catching Pokémon and battling with them. The release date for both of these games is November 18th and 23rd in North America.

Final Thoughts:

These games are exclusive to the 3DS and 2DS so if you want to play them, you'll have to purchase the systems. The 2DS can be found for as cheap as $70 while the 3DS will likely cost you nearly $200. For these games as well as other Pokémon games you can play, it's well worth the price.

Lego and Star Wars Gift Ideas

This year Lego released all new Lego sets for the new Star Wars movie, Rogue One. Personally, I like the new Lego Star Wars TIE Striker and Rebel U-Wing fighter the best.

Another one that many fans will like is the Star Wars AT-ST Walker which comes with minifigure Baze Malbus and his heavy blaster.

Star Wars Advent Calendar

Each year Lego comes up with a new Lego Advent Calendar. This year, it's Star Wars themed. That means 24 days of awesome Lego and Star Wars gifts to open up. More information about each of these sets can be found below.

For the Star Wars Fan

Star Wars Frames is an amazing collection of George Lucas' favorite Star wars clips by the frame. This new book took time and effort from the man himself who spent two years going through nearly 1 million frames to come up with his favorite 1500 frames.

This gift is perfect for not only the Star Wars fan, but also the cinema-loving geek at heart. The original hardcover version cost nearly $3,000 back in 2010 and weighed nearly 210 pounds, but now we have this paperback version for under $100.

For Big Bang Theory Fans

The Big Bang Theory is a show that geeks and non-geeks alike can enjoy. I've enjoyed every season thus far and if your geek is as big of a fan as I am, then they'll love this DVD of the ninth season.

More Ideas:

Other good big bang theory gift ideas include Big Bang and Sheldon related T-shirts, coffee mugs, and my personal favorite bobble heads. Big Bang Theory posters are also readily available and in fact, I keep one in my office.

For Trekkies

Star Trek hit its 50th anniversary this year, the Star Trek Beyond movie was a box office success, and as a Trekkie I'm more excited than ever about the franchise. Here's something I recently picked up for carving out my favorite food.

This hilarious Star Trek Pizza cutter is great for geeks, pizza fans, and Star Trek addicts. Shaped like the USS enterprise it actually cuts surprisingly well.

This pizza cutter will boldly go where no pizza cutter has gone before and any Star Trek-lover will be glad to have it. Get it for them and tell them to "live long and pizza"!

For the Antisocial Geek

This is a great shirt for the self-proclaimed social outcast who'd rather not talk if they don't have to.
This is a great shirt for the self-proclaimed social outcast who'd rather not talk if they don't have to.

It's not that they're not good at socializing it's that they simply don't want to take the effort. It takes too much time and that cuts into their gaming time.

This way they can get rid of all those awkward conversations at once and not even have to talk to anyone. This will truly save them at least 10 seconds each day. Over the next 5 years, before this shirt deteriorates, that's 304 minutes of time which is more than 5 hours. See? I told you I was a geek.

For Board Game Geeks

Although it was released in the middle of 2012 it typically takes a game about a year to catch on. Probably my favorite discovery of 2017 has been Trajan.

Trajan is a European style strategy game with amazing artwork and detail. It was a 2012 International Gamers Award winner and will provide hours of entertainment for your board game loving geek.

In my personal opinion, it's really not for your average gamer. In other words the strategy involved is more of a Settlers of Catan than a Monopoly. That's great for geeks, and perhaps too complicated for others.

For New Dads

Perfect for your little geeky noob.
Perfect for your little geeky noob.

If your geek is a new Dad, then what better way to draw him to his newborn son or daughter, then by getting noob onesie.

If you don't already know, n00b is a gamer term which means you're completely new at a game and often times quite ineffective at whatever you're playing. This onesie will make him laugh for sure.

A Gift for the TV Junkie

The Roku Streaming Stick, Amazon Prime Stick, and Chromecast add a plethora of options to your TV viewing experience.

If your geek is like me, then they like to have their media available in any location. Gadgets like the Google Chromecast, Roku Streaming Stick, and Amazon Prime Stick make this possible.

How I Removed the Cable Cord:

I personally use Plex, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, and Netflix to get all my entertainment these days. Plex holds all my movies and between the three other subscriptions I have all the TV I could possibly need.

Quite a few more channels and options can be added by using Sling TV.

A Gift for the Aspiring Pro Gamer

Major League Gaming recently went away from the highly praised Astro A40s in favor of a new relationship with Turtle Beach.

If you're gaming geek has aspirations to be a professional gamer, then Turtle Beach's new Ear Force Z Seven headset is something they'll need.

The Xbox One and PS4 Are Still Worth Buying

The PS4 and Xbox One were released nearly 3 years ago. Today, they're more affordable than they day they were released. Look for deals that include extra controllers or games.

Game Titles to Keep Your Eye On:

Big titles this year include Battlefield 1, NBA 2k17, Madden NFL 17, Forza Horizon 3, FIFA 17, Assassin's Creed the Eizo Collection, and Call of Duty Infinite Warfare.

Should You Buy a PS4 or Xbox One:

While both of these consoles are great in their own ways, I highly recommend you ask the recipient of the console for their preference. A lot of times what console someone purchases has to do with the one their friends are purchasing. This way they'll be able to group and play games together. Otherwise, you might see them quickly trading it in to get the other.

Final Thoughts

Overall there's a lot of really gadgets that have been released in 2017. If you've got any more great gift ideas for your geek, then be sure to participate in our active discussion area below.
