Let's give it up for the Geeks, it's Geek Pride Day!

Updated on September 15, 2014

Stand Tall and Proud on Geek Pride Day

Get ready to fly your Geek flag on May 25th, in celebration of Geek Pride Day! A special day dedicated to those Geeks which we all know and love.

So how did all this geekdom get it's own holiday and why?

The date was chosen to honor the opening of Star Wars, which premiered on May 25th in 1977. Geek Pride day was first celebrated in Spain and spiraled all over the world. The first Geek festival began in 2006 in Albany, New York and continues its tradition today.

Well, let's face it... Geeks are pretty cool people. They are your go to person for anything techy. What would the world become if we did not have geeks. As far as, technology it would be quite dull, that is for sure.

So to all you gamers, hackers, programmers and overall Geeks, I salute you. Happy Geek Pride Day!

Geeks and Nerds... Oh MY

What is the difference between a Geek and a Nerd

Many times you may hear the words Geek and Nerd used interchangeably, but they are really not the same.

So you may be wondering... Just what exactly is the difference between a Geek and a Nerd. Well to begin with the term geek is more relevant to technology or an obsession with something like comics or anime. While a nerd is more academically gifted and would be enrolled in a class like quantum physics.

So basically, the person who might be attending a Star Wars convention is a Geek. And a nerd would be choosing his/her words carefully when speaking to you so you understand what they are saying. Nerds tend to marry other nerds, which is most likely due to the intelligence factor. Geeks, on the other hand do not marry other Geeks. They mesh into society better and make us giggle at their obsessive interests in all sorts of technical or just plain weird topics.

Geeks are just plain loveable, if you ask me.

Karotz Your Smart Rabbit
Karotz Your Smart Rabbit

Your bunny can inform you of what's shaking on your social networks, publish your status updates, play your favorite music, and even serve as a check-in point that emails you a photo of your child when they arrive home from school. If you're in a long distance relationship, you can "marry" two bunnies together and they'll mirror each other's ear motions no matter how far apart they are. Karotz speaks, sees, listens, obeys, and can teach you new things or enable your laziness. That's no ordinary rabbit.

Cooking for Geeks: Real Science, Great Hacks, and Good Food - How's and Why's of Cooking

Cooking for Geeks would make a great gift for college-bound kids (especially chemistry and physics majors), fans of TV shows like Mythbusters or Good Eats, and any of the aforementioned geeks who need help weaning themselves off breakfast cereal and ramen noodles. If you or someone wants to get deeper and really understand how things work in the food world, these books are invaluable.

The term geek has evolved over the years to be a kinda "badge of honor" for those lucky enough to wear it.

The geek word can be traced back as early as the 14th century, which bore a meaning of loser, fool or simpleton.

During the early part of the 20th century, the meaning of Geek took a turn and was used to describe a carnival performer. You know the ones who bit animal heads off and other gross stuff like that. This makes me wonder if Ozzie fits into this category and if not, then where does he actually fit?

Anyway, in the 70's the word "Geek" began to be described as a person with a high intellect hidden by an awkward exterior. Well, if you are thinking what I am thinking... Yes, this kinda sounds like a nerd. So now what... I thought they were different.

In the early 90's geek took yet another turn to describe those individuals whose interests in specific topics take them out of the mainstream. These diverse and intense interest in such things as computers, comic books or science fiction make them little experts within the topic. Analyzing two of the top geeks our world has seen would be Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. These guys had an intense interest in computer design which took over there lives as they continued to develop computers, operating systems, programs and applications and lost everything a few times in their pursuit.

We can thank these King Geeks for all they have contributed to our world. Where would we be without them?

So you see... Geeks are truly awesome.
