Awesome Gifts for 15 and 16 Year Old Boys

Updated on December 15, 2016

All The Best Presents for Your Teen Guy

Best Gifts for 15 and 16 Year-Old Boys

Shopping for gifts for 15 and 16 year-old boys can be difficult. They are too old for most toys, but they're still kids, and giving money or a generic gift card seems too impersonal. Personally, I also like to find good deals on gifts. Here are my personal favorites when it comes to gifts for this age group. These presents might even garner that ever-so-elusive smile when they're opened (and isn't that the best "thank you" you can receive? Parents, you know what I'm getting at here!). My brothers are right in this age range and sometimes they can be very hard to please!

No matter what they are into (and even if their interests change every day) these gift ideas are on every 15 and 16 year-old boy's wish list.

Philips Norelco Razor for a Teenage Boy

Philips Norelco Shaver 4500 (Model AT830/41) (Packaging may vary)
Philips Norelco Shaver 4500 (Model AT830/41) (Packaging may vary)

Over 1,000 people on Amazon can't be wrong, and with so many reviews averaging at four or five stars, it's clear that people love this electric razor. It's fully washable so it's easy to care for. The three floating heads glide smoothly over skin, hugging the face's contours and cutting effortlessly. This great razor for teenage boys comes with a cleaning brush, protective cap, power cord, and a full two-year warranty. Bonus: It charges in as little as 3 minutes!

Parents, this is one of those useful gifts that he will actually appreciate. My cousin got this for his birthday this year (he's actually 14, though). When I was compiling this list I asked him what he likes about this razor, and he says he hasn't nicked himself once.

Let Them Pick with a Gift Card

Let's be honest - 15 or 16 is a picky age. Let them pick what they want with a gift card. This one comes in a pretty package!

Hoodie with Earphones: Perfect for the Teen Boy Music Lover (Comes in All Sizes)

Hoodie Buddie Men's Posse, Nova, Small
Hoodie Buddie Men's Posse, Nova, Small

One of the easiest gifts for 15 and 16 year-old boys is a Hoodie Buddie. It looks like a normal hooded sweatshirt, but is anything but that. This hoodie contains built-in headphones—the earbuds are located in the drawstring of the hood. They just plug in their music player into a jack in the front pocket. Since all teens listen to music (take a look around campus next time you drop your kid off at high school), this is a no-brainer. This is one unique gift they'll be happy to receive, and it comes in a lot of colors. And yes—because I know you're wondering —they can be machine washed!

My 16 year-old brother received this hoodie as a gift and appreciated it very much. He takes the bus to school (much to his dismay since all the rest of his friends drive), and he likes to just zone out and listen to music so as not to have to deal with the younger kids on the bus.

Portable Speaker That Fits any Device

iHome iM60LT Rechargeable Mini Speaker - Blue
iHome iM60LT Rechargeable Mini Speaker - Blue

This is an awesome portable speaker that will fit almost any music device or laptop. Anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack will work. It comes in six colors and even includes a travel pouch.

This speaker has amazing sound quality for something so small—it really amplifies the bass nicely. This also has a built-in, rechargeable battery so that it's always ready when he is! One of my friends purchased this for her step-son and told me about it. I actually purchased one for my own desk at work.

Beats Headphones

Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones - Black
Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones - Black

Teenage boys love their music. While you may not agree on their musical taste, you both can agree that these are stylish headphones! They come in several colors, have a 20-hour rechargeable battery, and are very lightweight—great if he listens to music on the go. The nice thing about these is that the cord isn't that typical coiled-type, so they are easy to wear while moving. They also fold up super compactly, so he can just throw them in his book bag.

Because these are stylish and trendy, he'll love wearing these around his friends. They are on the pricey side, but a good investment if you're buying them as a larger gift. My brother loves his pair, and loves that they come in every color under the sun.

Portable Speaker Cube

GOgroove BX Portable Speaker System w/ Rechargeable Battery & 3.5mm Aux Port - Works With Apple , Samsung , HTC , Sony and More Smartphones , Tablets , MP3 Players , Computers & more
GOgroove BX Portable Speaker System w/ Rechargeable Battery & 3.5mm Aux Port - Works With Apple , Samsung , HTC , Sony and More Smartphones , Tablets , MP3 Players , Computers & more

This GOgroove is another portable speaker option. Who knew you could have such big sound from something so small? This wee thing weighs just over a pound but really packs a punch. I love that it's a cube. It would look awesome in a teenage boy's bedroom. Guys this age love big sound.

Awesome Dancing Water Speakers

SoundSOUL Dancing Water Speakers LED Speakers Water Fountain Speakers Mini Misic Amplifier(6 Colored LED Lights) - Black
SoundSOUL Dancing Water Speakers LED Speakers Water Fountain Speakers Mini Misic Amplifier(6 Colored LED Lights) - Black

You may not have seen this before, but it’s a perfect gift for a teenage boy. It reminds me of the lava lamps of yesteryear, but this device actually moves and dances to the beat of modern-day music.

It's like watching art appear before your eyes—the light show displays after you plug in your music. Mesmerizing!

Unique and Sporty Bracelet for Teenage Boys

Bold & Beautiful Mens Stainless Steel Carbon Bracelet
Bold & Beautiful Mens Stainless Steel Carbon Bracelet

Guys at this age (even if they don't tell you) want to look nice, even if only on special occasions. Many 15 and 16 year-old boys would love to wear this bracelet daily. Even if he's a bit more casual, he'll still get use out of this subtle and sporty bracelet. Whether it's for school dances, formal pictures, or any other semi-dressy occasion, this bracelet will add a touch of class. It has carbon fiber detailing—the same material that's used in racing cars. My automotive-fanatic brother has a very similar bracelet, and he wears it every day. He's a pretty casual guy, but he likes that it can be dressed up or dressed down.

This has been a really popular gift, largely because it's so affordable and perfect for all personality types. I love getting good deals on gifts, and especially love when something looks much more expensive than it is.

Awesome Sporty Stainless Steel Watch

Invicta Men's 1771 Pro Diver Collection Stainless Steel Chronograph Watch
Invicta Men's 1771 Pro Diver Collection Stainless Steel Chronograph Watch

I love this two-toned watch. It's both handsome and very well-reviewed. It's water resistant to 200 meters, which is a plus if he's active. This is great for boys ages 15 and 16 because it's both casual and dressy at the same time. It's a nice keepsake for this age group because it's something they can wear now and later. It's also a great price!

Fire HD 8 Tablet with Alexa, 8" HD Display, 16 GB, Black - with Special Offers (Previous Generation - 6th)
Fire HD 8 Tablet with Alexa, 8" HD Display, 16 GB, Black - with Special Offers (Previous Generation - 6th)

This device has something for every 15 or 16 year-old boy (and this is something every wallet can afford. My brother absolutely loved receiving this last year. He was about to head off to college and I knew it would be something he could use for school and for fun.

Does he love to read? He can download a ton of books and magazine onto this thing. Does he love music? He can download songs. Loves to be in-the-know? He can connect to Facebook and other social apps instantly. What about TV and movies? He can watch them all on here. This is simply a fabulous gift that he can use for years to come. Bonus: it's Wi-Fi enabled! Be sure to check out the graphics—they are gorgeous!

Don't forget a cover to protect your investment! My brother uses this to read his textbooks and wouldn't have it any other way.

Awesome Remote Controlled Helicoptor

Syma S107G 3 Channel RC Helicopter, Yellow
Syma S107G 3 Channel RC Helicopter, Yellow

If he still loves technology and gadgets (while many guys do at this age, some don't), this popular remote-control helicopter has over 1,300 reviews on Amazon. There's no assembly required, so it's ready to fly as soon as it's taken out of the box. It measures 7.5 inches and flies for 8 to 12 minutes after a 30-minute charge with the included USB cable=. Bottom line: 30 minutes to almost instant-gratification and for this age group that's pretty good! My 14-year-old neighbor got one recently, and months later (weather-permitting!) he's still flying it. He said that it's held up really well for such a cheap gift, too.

Watch the Syma S107-G remote-controlled helicopter in action. You'll see how lightweight it is and how easy it is to fly.

Perfect Gaming Chair for a Teenage Boy

X Rocker 51396 Pro Series Pedestal 2.1 Video Gaming Chair, Wireless
X Rocker 51396 Pro Series Pedestal 2.1 Video Gaming Chair, Wireless

Does your teenage boy love video games? If he wants to take his gaming up a notch, then this gaming chair is right up his alley! This chair connects to any video game or home theater setup and allows him to not just hear, but feel the sound's vibrations. It's like surround-sound for gaming!

I've been able to try this chair out first-hand. It's pretty cool and definitely gives you a different experience from just playing on the couch. Bonus, it's not as expensive as you might think!

Texting Gloves: A Practical Gift He'll Love

Check out the fingertips of these touchscreen gloves.
Check out the fingertips of these touchscreen gloves.
Isotoner Men's Smartouch Tech Stretch Gloves, Black, Large
Isotoner Men's Smartouch Tech Stretch Gloves, Black, Large

These look like normal, boring gloves, right? Think again. If you've seen any teenage boy, you know he's attached to his phone. These gloves have special fingertip pads that allow him to continue to text (or operate music, or make calls) while leaving his gloves on.

My brothers absolutely loved receiving these. Usually they get annoyed when I give them the same thing but they were each psyched to get a pair of these. They use them all the time during the cold months.

Books for Teenage Boys for Christmas

It may not seem as exciting as a flashy electronic, but a thoughtful and entertaining book can be a welcome gift for a 15 or 16 year-old boy. Every year for Christmas I get my brothers funny books like these and we read them cover-to-cover before the holiday week is up! My dad gets in on the action too, but it drives my mom crazy.

When Parents Text: A Laugh-out-Loud Funny Book

When Parents Text: So Much Said...So Little Understood
When Parents Text: So Much Said...So Little Understood

Kids these days grow up texting. Unfortunately (but hilariously for teen boys), their parents did not. Let him chuckle at their expense at these super-funny real texts sent by actual parents. This makes for a great stocking stuffer. Just hope he doesn't have a few submissions of his own to send in!

Some other funny books that the whole family will enjoy:

  • F in Exams: The Very Best Totally Wrong Test Answers
  • Awkward Family Photos
  • Damn You, Autocorrect!: Awesomely Embarrassing Text Messages You Didn't Mean to Send

Gift Card Ideas for Teenage Boys

If after this you're still stumped, get him a gift card and let him choose. Here are some ideas:

  • Xbox Live Points: Both of my brothers and several of my friends (teens and adults alike) are glued to their Xbox every single nigh. If your boy is someone like this, then this is the perfect gift. He can rent movies, watch TV, play new Xbox games, and buy new add-ons for games he already has. This makes for a great stocking stuffer! Almost every teen guy has an Xbox, so even if he upgrades his system he can still use the points that he's been saving.
  • Amazon Gift Card: As good as cash!

Offering a watch as a gift is great idea, and in the case of an Invicta watch y ou'd better read a review about it, and here is a website that has some interesting reviews on these Invicta watches : invicta-watches-review.com

Spoiled kids. Ungrateful. Make your own money and buy the laptop. At 15 and 16 you can have a work permit and get your own high priced gadgets.

Get them ear buds and a walkman that takes cassette tapes. Cheers!

Yea...uhh im 15 and there is maybe two gifts on this page that would be alright. The bracelet thing, no boy no matter how old wants a bracelet. The Hoodie, that just seems, well just plain weird. Video games would be good for a lot of teens true, that is one of the good choices. But a teen doesn't want a new handy dandy razor, since they can buy a new one at their neighboorhood gas station. And please don't get your 15 year old son or other a pair of cheaply made gloves, so cheap that they just didn't put as much thread into parts of it and advertised it as being better and raised the price. And most teens, not all of them, would not enjoy getting a kindle for christmas. Some will, most wont. Notice how with the description of that, it talks about how it was for somebody going into college, not a 15 year old.

    • profile image

      anonymous 4 years ago

Well, i'm 15 and i can't say i agree with this list. Sure the Beats are cool, but that's a wad of cash that isn't practical. Everything else isn't worth a look. The hoodie is kinda stupid cause the buds are crap, video games are OK, but then the surprise is gone because you have to say what games you would like... I don't know anyone who still uses r/c toys anymore, and those speakers are impractical because they break to easy, better to get Beats. Now, as of what i think should be on the list:

      Ebay gift card

Memory cards or ram for computers(if they're into that sorta thing)

Sport-related (tickets for two to the game)

      Hunting equipment

      or last but not least,

      Simply cash.

Last Christmas I bought my son gift cards from American Eagle, Starbucks, Brueggers, our local movie theater, Best Buy and Itunes. I bought gift cards for my 17 year old daughter as well. I wrapped each card in various sized boxes. They loved it!! Doing the same this year. I also bought some other gifts such as slippers with his favorite sports team, a wallet, a pair of Sperry shoes, some cologne, a couple of Xbox games and a nice watch. I always try to spoil the kids at Christmas because they usually never ask for anything throughout the year or they buy what they want themselves.

@anonymous: Reading your response I'd have to say your analysis is probably fair but your spelling, grammar and punctuation are deplorable for a 16 year old. You should pay more attention in class and stop thinking of gifts as something that should cost more than a hundred bucks

The top gifts are for 12 year olds. I am 15 and do not approve of this list. Beats, the video game chair, the razor, and the GPS are the only good gifts on here. Money is probably the best present available.

Hey teens - how about some good gift suggestions your poor aunts and uncles can afford? Laptops, phones and game consoles are out of our range. What can we buy our nephews for 50 bucks or so that will still be something they want and will use?

    • profile image

      anonymous 4 years ago

I am sixteen and was searching for ideas of thing to buy and no offence but just the picture of the article made me wonder how accurate it could be it's a 20+ female writer its obviously understandable that your not in the right age group but the fact your of the opposite gender just made me wonder and when i read threw this it became very apparent you seemed to be guess maybe you used a case studby but it dose not seem you did

to start as everyone else said Remote control toys are a terrible idea and the Bracelet was a good idea for a 8+ girl I do not know anyone who wears a bracelet and there is a reason for that

Basically most of the things were either impractical (Great Video Game/Music Chair )crappy (the headphone jacket) or just plain stupid (Bracelet)

Realistically most people i know either want

      1. a laptop

      2. a phone

      3. a video game/ console

4.MONEY as impersonal as it is sometimes its better that then wasting money on some crap that the kid wouldn't like and or use anyway

Sorry that i have been so harsh its just this was way of the mark

and before you do please make some smart ass comment about my comment i it makes you fell any better ;)

No one I know plays with remote-control toys anymore, and substitute the steel bracelet for those rubber/gel/silicon bracelets. The hoodie and razor are kind of crappy, too. I'd rather the newest games for Xbox and tickets to a football game.

I thought the list was good. Probably eliminate the bracelet and the hoodie with the headphones. Otherwise, two things on the list are exactly what my son asked me for: XBOX points and beats. I would add the new iphone, every kid 13 and older wants one. The long board is a good idea too for any kid who likes to skate.
