Amazingly Awesome Gifts for 17 Year Old Boys

Updated on December 15, 2016

Gifts for 17 Year Old Boys for Birthday, Christmas, and More!

If you're looking for the absolute best gifts for 17-year-old boys, you've come to the right place. Seventeen is a difficult age to shop for. You don't want to give money (no matter how welcome it may be); you'd rather give him something he can hold and appreciate. I know I want to give a guy this age something tangible, if possible.

All gifts on this comprehensive list were hand-selected by—you guessed it—17-year-old boys. Give him a present he'll be excited to receive. Hey, you may even get a grin and "thank you" out of him!

Best Practical Gift for 17 Year Olds: Panasonic Shaving System

Panasonic Electric Shaver and Trimmer for Men, ES8243A ARC4, Wet/Dry with 4 Blades and Flexible Pivoting Head
Panasonic Electric Shaver and Trimmer for Men, ES8243A ARC4, Wet/Dry with 4 Blades and Flexible Pivoting Head

An electric shaving razor is a fantastic gift for a teenage boy. Apparently, over 2,000 people agree with me (check out those stellar reviews!). Why does this make a great gift? This razor has four blades, whereas so many only have three. Because of this, combined with how quickly this new device is made to cut hairs, you get a super close shave.

This razor has a wet and dry option, and cleaning is an absolute cinch. This is the Rolls-Royce of shavers, and will last him for a very long time.

Several male members of my family have this razor and rave about it!

Trendy Bracelet

A little polished, a little industrial, but very on-trend. This is nice for a teen who occasionally dresses up, or for one heading off to college.

Texting Gloves

Maybe a sign of the times, but everyone is on their smart phones these days. My brother is on it, much to my mother's dismay, 24-7!

When it's freezing out and you want to use the phone, it can be hard. These texting gloves have a textured fingertip that kinda of grips to the phone so that you can still use it while gloved.

This is a great gift that both my brother and husband have enjoyed.

Best Gadget for Teenage Boys: Read, Game, It Does it All

Fire HD 8 Tablet with Alexa, 8" HD Display, 16 GB, Tangerine - with Special Offers (Previous Generation - 6th)

Does he love music? Like games? Love (okay, tolerate) reading? Watch movies? Enjoy taking pictures? How about Facebook? The new Kindle Fire takes care of all of that and more.

You know how different a regular TV looks from an HD one? Such is the display of this awesome Kindle Fire HD. The 8-inch screen on this tablet is nothing less of stunning.

While this is a fun and useful gift for anyone, 17-year-olds heading off to college will us the Kindle Fire at school for sending documents and even for reading some textbooks.

My brother uses this to read several of his textbooks.

Best Novelty Book for 17-Year-Old Boys: F In Exams

F in Exams: The Very Best Totally Wrong Test Answers
F in Exams: The Very Best Totally Wrong Test Answers

Funny books can be a great stocking stuffer for teenage boys. You may have seen some of this around the web. If you did, I'm sure you've died laughing (I know I did). Who hasn't struggled from time to time on a test? These stumped students provide their very best answers to some tough (and not so tough) exam questions, with hilarious results.

Every year I gift a funny book like this one to both of my brothers as a stocking stuffer - it's one of our holiday traditions to read them after opening gifts on Christmas morning.

More Funny Reads He'll Love

He'll find these books absolutely hilarious. Before you wrap them up, be sure to check out a few pages yourself; you'll be howling with laughter, too!

  • When Parents Text: So Much Said...So Little Understood: Oh, the horror when parents try to send text messages, especially when they are first "learning." This one had me in stitches from page one. Any kid growing up these days will appreciate this book.
  • Damn You, Autocorrect!: Awesomely Embarrassing Text Messages You Didn't Mean to Send: We've all done it, right? Sent a text that our phone's autocorrect turned into something embarrassing? Share in the laughter and awkwardness.

Best Gift for Gamers: Xbox Live Points or Playstation Points

These are always my go-to gift for teenage boys of any age. Points can be used for game add-ons, games in-full, movies, music, and more.

Most guys I know will go through a few thousand of these points per year, so you can never have too many. Plus, they make great stocking stuffers.

Best Game for 17-Year-Old Boys: The Game of Things

The Game of Things(Discontinued by manufacturer)
The Game of Things(Discontinued by manufacturer)

I know what you're thinking, a game gift? For a guy who's almost an adult? I've played this game several times, and trust me, teens love it. In each round, each player supplies an item for an absurd list, for example, "Things you would like to ask a psychic" or "Things you shouldn't do with glue." One person reveals everyone's answers, and then players guess who wrote what answer. The last person left for that round wins.

It's one of those awesome games that's best played with close friends or family, as inside jokes start to surface. Lots of fun!

Best Keepsake Gift for 17 Year Old Boys: Kenneth Cole Watch

Kenneth Cole New York Men's KC9209 Transparency Automatic Roman Numeral Transparent Dial Watch
Kenneth Cole New York Men's KC9209 Transparency Automatic Roman Numeral Transparent Dial Watch

Give him function and fashion—this watch has it all. Not only is it stunning from afar, but he'll like the fact that it's interesting, too. My brother absolutely loved the blue color of the hands and the numbers and found this to be the perfect gift last Christmas. I love the fact that you can see the "inner workings" in the background.

Is he active? No sweat, as this is water resistant to 165 feet.

This is a great option because it's both sporty and dressy, a combination that's perfect for the next step out of high school.

For my son it would be the head phones. Now that might change if I were to ask him.

Hey hey... I'm 16 and have been shaving for 3 years. Lol who's learning? lol jk. But some of the best gifts to give us who are turning 17 is the gift of music, a laptop, a phone, a gift card, or a family heirloom. Some guys like rings or chains as well. Not all. Watches, clothes, headphones, and jackets are also commonly wanted among us teens. :)

Shaving is a big one at that age when they are still figuring out the best way to shave
