Gifts For Girls & Boys Who Love Doctor Who

Updated on August 24, 2017

Welcome to my Doctor Who Gift and Craft Guide!

My sister's youngest daughter loves Doctor Who, when she was only four during the scary scenes she watched with her hands over her face.

This was a family tradition, thirty years ago my sister used to watch the old Doctor Who with our dad.

All my niece wanted was a pink dalek, but they don't make Priness Daleks so I made her a sparkly poster of a pink princess Dalek, and a short hand drawn story book about a Princess Dalek. But this got me thinking, what do you buy the child who loves Doctor Who a show that is supposed to be made for children, but is mostly watched by grown-ups?

When I can't afford or find what I think my friends would like, I make it. I found a journal a large blue one at a thrift store for .99 cents and I drew around 70 pictures of Doctor Who and other things from the show. This is my drawing of a Dalek. I enjoyed drawing this for my sister. My sister has an entire book of doctor who art and I'd like to share some of it with you, so all of the art I'm using is my own.

I made my sister a pencil cases, I printed a picture of a Taurus and glued it to a to a recycled plastic peanut butter jar. I guess this craft is what hipsters would call upcycling.

Cartoons

They only made two of these specials for children and they star the Doctor before the doctor my niece has a crush on, but it would still be a good option for you.

Now to tell the truth Doctor who is supposed to be for older children 9 and older, however it might be a bit too scary for some children.

My niece used to watch with her mother when when she was very young, but she doesn't watch it as much as she used to.

What I found

My Fob Watch of Time Drawing

I drew an entire picture book for my sister, she loves Doctor Who and I wanted to give her something she couldn't get from any store. She wanted a Mythbuster party. So I gave her a Mythbuster and Doctor Who Party. I got her fake mustaches, Mentos and diet soda to explode in her backyard.

The party and the book were a huge hit. I bought the large lined book at a thrift store and it was only 99 cents plus tax, so her entire gift was only 1.06 plus lots time. I looked at pictures online, watched episodes on Netflix and spent weeks drawing and coloring her gift.

When I started writing this I didn't think I would find anything, many of the dolls are actually made for collectors, you can find used ones on ebay for around three dollars normally with free shipping which is pretty good. These normally are out of the box so they are not as collectible.

I really liked drawing this watch, the original was on classic doctor who, and you can buy a replica on amazon.com.

Drawings aren't the only craft that you can make. If you can use a needle and thread, you can make plush toys like the adorable Adipose and there is a YouTube video here to teach you how. There many great crafts for boys and girls who love Doctor Who.

Adipose Toy Craft

Micro Set

These are micro doll sets that you can buy one at a time or all together. I saw an animated Doctor Who Chess set that I thought looked cool but that is something a 4 year old would not get. These are cute and great for kids over three.

The doctor is in.

This drawing is one of the 60 to 70 that I drew for my sister. This is the 4th through 7th season's Doctor. I also drew all of the other doctors before him. Now that there is a new Doctor for season 8, I should add a few drawings to her book the next time I'm at her house.

I drew over 50 drawings in this collection and look pictures of all of them in case I ever wanted to recreate this and start my own Etsy store.

It's not pink like my niece wanted, of course nowadays she would want purple, but this a toy you could buy a child. They come in many different colors available, for boys and girls. If your favorite color is not for sale. You can always make something yourself or special order from an Etsy seller.

There was a huge craft fair at an awesome Steampunk, here is what it was like.

Doctor Craft Fair

Tardis Shoe Craft

I found this ice bucket sold with the ice trays for only 12.99, that's less than half of the original ice buck sold in its own.

This is Ice bucket is Totally Cool

My sister loves the tardis and this is for her.

I actually made her a Tardis cover pencil jar that she just loved. I took a peanut butter jar and printed out a drawing of the Tardis, I used Mod Podge make it stick and my sister and her girls loved it and used for years before it broke.

More

I bought a sonic screwdriver necklace on eBay and Tardis necklace for my sister on eBay, both for under two dollars each with free shipping. To find these deals, type in what you want to buy. Tardis necklace, sonic screwdriver, or doctor who necklace. You can ask for free shipping, but you don't have to. Ask for the cheapest first, then choose the buy it now option. Though you might be able get a slightly cheaper price from an auction, you must factor in the time spent. It can take days to win at the cheapest price and you may overpay because you lose control in a bidding war.

Shipping time, these cheap items normally ship from china and can take anywhere from two to six weeks to arrive at your home. So if you have a special day to buy for, purchase early.

Dalek Charms and how to make them

Details of Craft

I like this craft. The artist used the classic colors, glitter and polymer clay to make this craft. However this clay comes in a variety of colors and you can make any combinations you want, even princess colors.

There is also a link to her store so you could buy them directly from her, I really think this is a cute craft.

Dalek Cake

How to cook that or HowToCookThat.com teaches us in great detail how to make a huge Dalek chocolate cake in this twenty minute video on their youtube channel. You can even print the templates from their website.

The cake itself looks very realistic, but a lot goes into it.

Taris

Tardis Cake

This cake was made with mostly butter cream frosting, only the details are made out of homemade sugar paste, which is similar to fondant, but might taste a bit better.

It is a small, tall chocolate sponge cake. You could make it bigger.

This would be a lot easier to make than the Dalek cake.

Dalek Cupcakes and Awesomeness

Dalek Cupcake Delails

Made by the same beautifully quirky Brit that brought us the Tardis cake. I am quickly becoming a fan, became her videos are fun, quick and easy to follow.

All these crafts make me Want to give my sister another party.

I love Dr Who and have a sonic screwdriver and a few mugs and othe yard is memorabilia. Great idea of yours to make a book for your niece. There are quite a lot of spelling mistakes and typos in this hub however, for instance in the last paragraph in the first section you say you took a picture of a "Taurus".. Do you mean a Tardis? Also, although HubPages states you can have one Amazon or eBay capsule for every 300 words, in reality they are much stricter than that now. I have had to delete everything more than two on any hub, no matter how many words.

Lots of great ideas of gifts for little girls that like Dr. Who. I've not seen enough of Dr. Who to decide whether I'm a fan or not. We've been thinking about checking it out lately to see if it's a series we can crawl into. :)

I like all the incarnations of Dr Who. I had no idea there was so much Dr Who stuff available. Why is this for girls? I saw plenty of stuff I could like as a gift. (Hint to all my friends out there)

I'm at a little bit of a disadvantage because I've never seen Dr. Who but I sure would like a Sonic Screwdriver, it just sounds cool!
