Most women (myself included) wouldn't say no to losing a few pounds. In my circle of female family members and friends there are many women who are currently on a diet or trying to lose weight in some fashion. So, I thought for Christmas this year, why not buy them a gift that will help and this article lists my gift ideas to help lose weight. So, if you're looking for Christmas and birthday presents why not choose a present which will help in the quest for weight loss.
Obviously it can be a sensitive area. Giving them a prepaid subscription for weight watchers or the gym will probably be taken as insult! Therefore many of the gifts suggested below are also great for working towards better fitness and health. Weight loss will just be an additional benefit of using the gift.

Fitness gadgets are great way to get motivated to exercise and there are lots of great ones that make fantastic gifts.
Ideas include a pedometer which will measure the amount of steps taken everyday. The aim is to reach about 10, 000 steps a day. Walking has lots of health benefits and will help burn away the calories too.
Other gadgets include a heart rate monitor, running watch (if the person you're buying for likes running), and a calorie counter. Or what about an mp3 player so that she can listen to music while she is walking, running or working out.
But one of my favorite fitness gadgets is the fitbit below.
This little device is like a pedometer, heart rate monitor, calorie counter wrapped into one and it offers so much more than this too. It tracks steps, distance, calories burned and stairs climbed. You can sync your results to your computers and some smartphones and tablets. You can log your food, weight, workouts and more using the online tools. It monitors how well you sleep and can take this information and give you and overall picture of your health. Additionally, you can use to it set goals and log your progress to your goal.It motivates you to continue by awarding you with badges when you reach your goals or show amazing performance!
It's recommended for health reasons to take at least 10 000 steps a day. It's also a great way to start weight loss. A pedometer is a good way to start measuring your daily activity. The pedometer features six tracking modes. It tracks steps, aerobic steps, time, distance, calories and fat grams burned.
Kitchen Gadgets and Cookbooks - Pressure Cooker
Losing weight involves eating and cooking healthy food and eating the right size portions. Sounds simple , but when you've been at working all day and maybe have kids to look after, it's so much quicker and easier to put a ready meal in the oven or get a takeaway. Or you cook too much food and then eat it all for comfort.
However, there are lots of kitchen gadgets that making cooking healthy food much simpler, easier and quicker and will help you lose weight. Some ideas include a kitchen scales to measure out the correct portions of food such as pasta. Other ideas include a food processor which makes chopping vegetables much faster and easier.
But my favorite gadget is the pressure cooker. There aren't as scary as they used to be as the risk has been taken out of them with lots of safety mechanisms. And they cook everything about 70% quicker which save energy and time. You can have those veggies cooked in less than 2 minutes or a beef stew in 15! Additionally a pressure cooker keeps more nutrients in the food. This is because it cooks the food more quickly and the nutrients aren't washed away by the water used in boiling them.

This happened for me when I read, In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan and it makes a great gift not just for anybody trying to lose weight but for those interested in health and food too.
This is a real eye opener of a book. There's so much information in this book its hard to chose the most important points that it raises. However some highlights for me included:In terms of weight loss, it shows that all those years of eating "low fat" products have probably contributed to us getting fatter. It shows us how food manufacturers have been misleading consumers for many years. And probably most importantly it highlights some simple and easy rules for eating healthy and staying in shape. They include stop eating processed food, eat like your Grandma did, eat less and mainly plants.
21st century women tend to be busy women and it can be difficult to find the time to workout. If this is the case for the lady you know, why not get a workout DVD that they can do at home.
There are lots of workout DVDs to suit all kinds of fitness levels and time constraints. You can get 10 minute workout DVDs so there's no excuse of not having the time to fit it in. Everybody can find 10 minutes!
There are workout DVDs popularized by TV shows and personalitites such as workouts like The Biggest Loser and Jillian Michaels.
If you're looking for a workout for somebody with a good level of fitness. Check out the workout DVD systems such as Insanity or P90X workout DVDs.

Fitness Video Games
The easiest way to lose weight and to keep fit is to make it fun and working out with a games console makes working out fun! If the lady you know has kids, they may well have a games console such as Nintendo Wii or Xbox Kinect. They can take advantage of this and use them to workout.
If the lady you know has an Nintendo Wii, why not get her the Wii fit with balance board to go with it. They allow you to customize your workouts to 20, 30 or 40 minutes depending on the time you have. There are a large number of activities including: yoga, aerobics, strength training and balance games.
If they have an Xbox Kinect with Kinect Sensor then there are also lots of fitness games you can buy. They include the fitness evolved featured below. This includes over 90 hours of activities, including boot camp, cardio boxing, jump rope and a medley of dance classes.
