Updated on March 20, 2017

Gifts That Give Back

Valentine's Day Gifts for Him

Valentine's Day gifts can be a challenge for the men in our lives. Through the years I have bought my husband everything I can think of . I always ask what he would like to have, I consult the budget and wholla! For at least a decade he would ask for every new cologne known to mankind. After collecting so many he finally relented and we were free to make our own choices based on his habits and behaviors. All that's left now is a new house and car and the budget says Not!

Valentines Day gifts for men can be creative, unique, personalized and original. Plan ahead three to six months. Make a list take the actions steps and you're done ahead of time.

You can give gifts that costs nothing but time. Write a letter telling him what he means to you. Include the things you like and love about him. Sprinkle in what you appreciate and admire.

Poems are always a nice touch. You can make a scrapbook, or a photo album of then and now.

Get his car or truck washed. Get a gift card to his favorite places, movies, barber shop, retail store, bowling, vitamin shop, specialty store, what about a gas card? Oh yeah!

Personalize a tee shirt with a popular or funny saying. A six months or yearly gym membership, underwear, socks and pajamas can be good choices.

There are a mountain of every kind of tennis shoe you can think of. Good for a walk around the block the park trail, and of course the gym.

Fix his favorite meal, or have it made just the way he likes it. If he's into sports what about tickets to an upcoming basketball, baseball or football game? Is he a coffee lover? Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts or any coffee house has gift cards.

Subway, Quiznos or a smoothie shop ,an ice cream parlor, or a cake made just for him may be just the touch.

Golf clubs, or a new car with a bow tied around it will certainly do!

You can make your own gift basket with some of his likes. A back rub, foot rub, scalp massage is nice if he likes that kind of thing. You can write and sing a song. The list goes on.

This hub is here to give you ideas on what you can do mixed in with what you want to do. Hope this helps. Plan ahead, beat the crowd and exhale. On this page are some of the usual items on the market for you to look at or purchase, but you don't have to buy anything. This is a idea generator. Magazines have an abundance of good ideas to choose from too.

What Is Love? By Adrian Catron

Don't let the word love define your LOVE

Love is the most powerful emotion a human being can experience. The strange think is, that almost nobody knows what love is. Why is it so difficult to find love? That is easy to understand, if you know that the word "love" is not the same as one's feeling of love.

The word "love" is used and abused for the expression of different sets of feelings.

The word love is used as an expression of affection towards someone else (I love you) but it also expresses pleasure (I love chocolate). To make it a little more complicated, the word "love" also expresses a human virtue that is based on compassion, affection and kindness. This is a state of being, that has nothing to do, with something or someone outside yourself. This is the purest form of Love.

The ancient Greek used 7 words to define the different states of love:

Storge: natural affection, the love you share with your family.

Philia: the love that you have for friends.

Eros: sexual and erotic desire kind of love (positive or negative)

Agape: this is the unconditional love, or divine love

Ludus: this is playful love, like childish love or flirting.

Pragma: long standing love. The love in a married couple.

Philautia: the love of the self (negative or positive)

These are 7 different kind of feelings. The love you feel for your partner is not the same as the love you feel for your mother or father. Even the love for your partner changes in time. You feel different emotions for different situations and people.

In Closing

Valentine's Day and just because you choose too is a time to make sure the man or men in our lives feel appreciated and loved. Yes this applies all year round. We don't have to buy gifts although that seems to be the "norm". We can cook a meal, write a letter or poem or just tell them that we love them. Whatever way you choose to do or not do is just fine. Let's take deep breaths and let the day come up to meet us. Let there be lot's of peace within and without no matter how the day unfolds. Music, wine and laughter perhaps. May we all learn to love ourselves more and more and give to ourselves more love, more smiles, more peace. Slow and easy. That's it.
