You've got everything all ready for your Halloween party - the decorations, the food, your costume...

The special Halloween Cocktails! You'd be surprised at how something like the right spooky drinks can really dress up your Halloween party theme.

Let's get mixing!

Step One: Send Out Invitations! - A Great Halloween Party Party Begins With Great Invitations

Swamp Water Halloween Cocktail

This Halloween cocktail looks just like a big glass from a Louisiana swamp! Actually, it's a respin of the classic mojito. The blueberries look like stones, little eyeballs or .... gunk. You choose!

1 1/2 oz. Spiced rum (like Captain Morgan)

10-12 Fresh mint leaves

1 tbsp. Brown sugar

1/2 of a Lime, juice of

2 oz. Club soda

Splash of Cola

10-15 Fresh blueberries (optional)

1. Combine the brown sugar, lime juice, and mint in a small bowl, and crush them together with a small pestle or other utensil. (A mortar and pestle set works great for this!). Pounding the ingredients together serves to break up the min and release its flavor.

2. Transfer the crushed mixture from step one into a cocktail glass.

3. Fill the glass up about three-quarters of the way with crushed ice.

4. Pour the rum over the top of the ice.

5. Add club soda to taste.

6. You can then add a small splash of cola to get that "swampy" color, and add the blueberries as desired.

Kahlúa Cryptini

The Cryptini makes an especially good Halloween cocktail because of it's dark color and because it uses three different "spirits!"

Ingredients (1x):

1 part Kahlua

2-1/2 parts vanilla vodka

1/4 part sambuca

1. Mix all three spirits together in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake until chilled.

2. Strain into a chilled martini glass

- Garnish with espresso beans to accent the Kahlua

- Garnish with "shoelace licorice." Shoelace licorice as a garnish works especially well, as one of the spirits used - sambuca - tastes like licorice!

(Thanks Kahlua!)

Spooky Alcohol/Liqueurs

Use Your Imagination!

Below is a list of alcohols/liqueurs that have "spooky" colors. It makes sense to plan your Halloween cocktails using these as a base.

Black Vodka (Blavod Vodka for example)

Black Sambuca

Port Wine

Remy Red Liqueur

Midori Melon Liqueur

Creme de menthe

Green Apple Schnapps

Key Lime Cream Liqueur

Blackberry Brandy (black/red)

Jagermeister (dark red/brown)

Watermelon Schnapps (orange-ish)

Black Raspberry Liqueur

Don't Forget The Halloween Napkins! - Check out this great selection of Halloween-themed coasters!

Vampire Kiss Martini

Super Yummy, Super Simple, and Super Cool to look at:

1 ounce each, chilled:

- Vodka

- Champagne

- Chambord raspberry liqueur

1. Pour vodka into a martini glass, followed by the champagne.

2. "Float" the Chambord over the vodka and champagne by carefully pouring it down and over the back of a spoon.

Garnish with a set of plastic vampire fangs hung over the edge of the glass!

Halloween Cocktail Garnish Ideas

  • Place your Halloween Punch in a black cauldron for serving. Then, make a spooky face and hands to float in the cauldron! Make these by freezing ice in the mold of a mask (cover the eye and mouth hole with aluminum before adding water) and gloves (freeze the water inside the gloves).
  • Place a candy eyeball in a martini glass
  • Make a radish eyeball garnish. Check it out here: Celebrations.Com
  • Make your cocktail glasses "blood rimmed", as shown here:
  • Another creepy eyeball garnish - this one made with lychee. See the directions here:
  • Plastic Spider Rings - one per glass
  • Candy corn at the bottom of a martini glass makes any drink look festive.
  • You can make a great swizzle stick from black licorice! Take a long piece of black shoelace licorice or a "licorice whip" and tie a knot on one end - voila!
  • An oldie but goodie - freeze plastic bugs in your ice cubes!
  • Use a melon baller with a green or light colored melonto make another kind of creepy eyeball.
  • Specialty edible Halloween candy of all sorts - like vampire fangs, severed fingers...

King of Squidboo Winner!

I was thrilled to accept one of the 13 much sought-after "King of Squidoo" badges for this 2010 Squidboo Themed Lens.

Thank you to all those who voted for me!

Halloween Cocktail Brain Hemorrhage

This is the Halloween shot drink that is the most absolutely disgusting thing I've ever seen. But, what it lacks in looks it makes up for in taste. Just the thing for your Halloween pah-tay!

Ingredients (x1):

- Strawberry Schnapps - 1 oz.

- Bailey's Irish Cream - 1 tsp

- Grenadine

1. Pour the schnapps into a shot glass.

2. Slowly pour Bailey's over. Don't mix!

3. The Bailey's will begin to clump and "curdle" and look like a brain.

4. To finish the look - pour a small amount of grenadine over the top. Instant "blood!"

The trick to making the perfect Brain Hemorrhage shot is to use very cold spirits. If your alcohol isn't cold, here's another technique you can use to create the layered effect:

- Slowly and carefully, pour the Baileys down and over a spoon - a chilled spoon works best - so that it comes to rest gently on the schnapps

Hint: Due to the "texture" of the drink, it's best downed all in one shot!

Spooky Drink Mixers

As with the alcohol/liqueur list, the below mixers are Halloween-friendly based on their spooky colors.

Cranberry Juice

Strawberry Daiquiri Mix

Strawberry Margarita Mix

Strawberry Puree

Raspberry Puree

Blackberry Puree

Orange Juice

Blood Orange Juice - for a red/orange color

Sour Mix - bright green

MORE Halloween Cocktail Garnishes

  • Use blood orange as a substitute for other fruit garnishes
  • Make your drinks look other-worldly by using glow sticks as swizzle sticks. (Make sure the package indicates that the sticks are "non-toxic".)
  • Use grenadine or red sugar syrup to drizzle "blood" around the rim of any glass. (Let it drip down the sides of the glass for best effect.)
  • Use dried fruits as great "organs" - dried strawberries become frog hearts and dried apples become goblins' tongues. Place them on toothpicks or drink skewers.
  • Use gummy candy "bugs" - like worms, spiders, etc...

This black drink garnished with a blood orange is just the thing for all you vamps. .

Ingredients (1x)

Cognac - 1/2 part

Kahlua - 1.5 part

Triple Sec - 1/2 part

Simple Syrup - 1/2 part

Lemon Juice, Fresh - 3/4 part

1. Mix parts together in a cocktail shaker with ice

2. Sugar the rim of a chilled martini glass

3. Strain mixture into glass and garnish as desired

Suggested garnishes for this drink include a blood orange wedge or use a black licorice "swizzle stick"

(Thanks Kahlua!)

Pina Ghoulada

Pineapple Juice - 20 oz

Cream of Coconut - 15 oz

Heavy Cream - 1/2 cup

Orange Juice - 1 cup

Rum - 10 oz

1. Mix ingredients well in a small bowl

2. Place 2.5 cups of ice in a blender, then add 1 cup drink mixture.

3. Blend until smooth, and pour into prepared glasses.

4. Repeat as desired!

(Need a quicker/easier recipe? You can use a pre-mixed or frozen pina colada mix and add rum as desired!)

Then, garnish with "blood rimmed" glasses and lychee "eyeballs". (See Garnish list for more information)

Love the cocktail recipes. I mentioned and linked your Cryptini on my "Mummy's The Word" party lens. I was wondering what the grownups would drink at a mummy themed party. Now I need to find a suitable drink for the kiddies.
