Halloween Crafts -- Thimble Ghosts

Updated on September 9, 2014

Make Ghosts Using Thimbles

If you're looking for some super easy Halloween crafts, make thimble ghosts!

These tiny ghosts are made from, you guessed it, thimbles! Yep, thimbles used for hand sewing.

With just a little time and a little paint, they'll be ready in no time to decorate a Halloween scene on a table or to line a bookshelf protecting all your best scary books.

Kids can help make these not-very-scary ghosts easily and they'll probably want a few to play with. Just think how cute a little scary guy would look on a Lego rooftop!

Get Your Craft Supplies - and Make Some Thimble Ghosts of Your Own

Here are supplies you'll need to make these cute little thimble ghosts. They're so easy and fun to make. They're also quick, which is important to me!

Craft Supplies for Thimble Ghosts - Paint, Paintbrush, Toothpick, Mod Podge, and Thimbles

All you'll need to make your own thimble ghosts is some white paint for the ghost, brown or black paint for the eyes, a paintbrush, a toothpick, Mod Podge to seal the paint, and as many thimbles as you want ghosts.

I used the paint color Vanilla since I didn't have White. It worked fine. I would have used black for the eyes but I didn't have that either, so brown worked.

The thimbles I used were inexpensive metal thimbles, but plastic or metal thimbles would work equally as well.

Paint Your Ghosts - Hold the Ghosts Steady on Your Finger

The good thing about working with thimbles is you have 10 ready-made holders for them! Look, your fingers!

Give Your Ghosts Eyes - Use a Toothpick to Paint the Eyes

Paint eyes on with the end of a toothpick.

When the white paint has dried, paint the eyes on your thimble ghosts. I unscrewed the paint lid and dipped a toothpick in then dotted on two eyes per ghosts. After all, thimble ghosts need to be able to see where they're going.

When the eyes have dried, paint on a coat of Mod Podge decoupage medium to seal the paint. Let dry then your Halloween ghosts are ready for a spook-tacular time!

Be sure to wash your paintbrush right away after painting with paint and especially after applying Mod Podge. If left too long, the Mod Podge will dry and ruin your brush.

Thimble Shadow Box - Display Your Thimble Ghosts

Show off your thimble collection (or your collection of thimble ghosts) with this shadow box. Whether you just have a few of a wide collection that you replenish while traveling, this massive display case will keep your treasures in sight to enjoy each day.

Adorable! (I just left a comment but it didn't show up) - I can totally see these Halloween ghost thimbles lining a fireplace mantle.

@HealthfulMD: That can be a problem, especially with flighty little ghosts (and small hands!).
