Halloween Decorating Ideas to Transform Your Space

Store crafted or homemade Halloween decorations?

I love to decorate for Halloween. It's the time of year where you get to play dress-up and hang ridiculous and outlandish decorations. I like to mix store bought and homemade decorations to create my own unique Halloween zone.

Whether you crave indoor or outdoor Halloween decorations, homemade or store bought decorations you will find Halloween decorating ideas to fit your budget and taste. Find a collection of homemade Halloween decorations ideas from around the web, fun store crafted decorations, and engage in the Halloween debate: store bought or homemade Halloween decorations.

Scary or Sweet Decorations

Halloween is my absolutely favorite holiday. It's the time of year when ghouls and goblins run a muck. You get to hang up outlandish decorations indoors and outdoors. When it comes to decorating for Halloween you can choose to go two routes. You can choose scary or cute decorations.

Those with young children will most likely want to choose the less scary route to avoid nightmares. Opt for smiley faced ghosts and cute owls over grotesque witches with bulging eyes. Make your children part of your Halloween decorating plan whether that involves getting to help with Halloween decoration DIY projects or hanging your store bought decorations.

Will You Buy Your Crashed Witch Halloween Decoration? - Halloween Decoration Ideas

Assuming you want to have a witch to crash into a tree in your yard (and who doesn't?) you really have two options: Buy or Create.

In this scenario you decide to buy your clumsy witch for your outdoor Halloween display. What are the benefits of picking this option? You do not have to spend time hunting down craft supplies or assembling the project. Nope, all you have to do is open up the box, inflate, walk outside and attach it to your tree. You've given yourself the gift of time. Impressive...are you sure you are not a wizard?

Make a Homemade Crashed Witch - Halloween Decorating Ideas

Looks like it is door number two for you - creation. Behold the power of creation and control. You decide what your witch will look like from head to toe, even her broom. No one will have a crashed witch like you, unless you strictly follow the creation instructions below (but you wouldn't dare) because your in full possession of the creative spark. Don't forget you get the opportunity to recycle old items and give them new life. So much power so little time. You best be getting started on you crashing witch d├ęcor; after all, Halloween has a way of sneaking up on you. Don't despair as you can buy yourself something nice with the money you save on doing it yourself.

How Do You Like Your Halloween Decorating Ideas Served? - To make or to buy, that is the question.

Are you crafty or a great shopper? When it comes to decorating your home are you the diy self type or the order it yourself type. Depending on the day or situation I'm both.

What do you do to create a festive Halloween atmosphere: Do you buy or make your Halloween Decorations?

  • 24 black chenile stems
  • 1 roll of string or ribbon
  • 12 -24 pkg of Halloween foam or paper cut outs
  • Construction paper to trace if you make your own shapes
  • Hole Punch

  1. 1. Cut your shapes (ghost, pumkins, bats) out of your construction paper. You will need about 12 or 24 cut outs depending on how long you want your decoration to be. Or skip this step and buy prepurchased cut out paper or foam decorations.
  2. 2. Optional: Let the kids decorate their cut outs using what ever material they have on hand (markers, crayons and sparkles).
  3. 3. Take your hole punch and punch a hole in the top of each of the cut outs, then take one chenile step and guide it through the hole. Twist the ends together to create a loop. Continue with the next decoration until finished.
  4. 4. Take your string or garland, feed it through each of the chenile stem loops, and when finshed hang the decoration up.
