Halloween Movies for Kids - New and Classic

Updated on September 9, 2014

New Kids Halloween Movies for 2014 and Classics too

A collection of the best Halloween movies for kids in 2012. I've included new kids Halloween movies released in 2014 and those from last year in case you missed them and classics from earlier years.

Something for all age groups from seasonal fun for toddlers and preschoolers through little kids to spooky movies for big kids and tweens and starting to get to scary movies for younger teens.

Get that pillow ready to hide behind. Wooo.

Note that I've included links to the DVD version of the movies, but there are generally multiple formats and titles are usually available digitally to watch on demand as well. Make sure you pick the format that works best for your family.

New movies added 9 September 2014.

New Halloween Movies for Kids 2014

New Toy Story Halloween Compilation

Toy Story of Terror is a short movie which premiered on TV for Halloween last year. Now it's available on DVD.

Woody and the gang get caught up in a Halloween adventure. This might be a bit scary for younger children - my kids found the origianl Toy Story movies quite scary.

You also get some bonus material on the DVD.

Monster High: Freaky Fusion

New Monster High for 2014

Tehre's a new Monster High DVD out in time for Halloween 2014. Freaky Fusion has a release date of 30th September 2014.

Fans of Monster High will be very happy to get to the latest Monster High movie.

Scooby-Doo Frankencreepy

New Scooby-Doo Movie

Scooby-Doo is perfect Halloween watching for kids, mystery and intrigue to nothing too gruesome.

Scooby-Doo Frankencreepy is a new movie released on DVD in August 2014 in plenty of time for Halloween.

A good choice for all-round family entertainment.

Kids Halloween 4 Pack

Halloween Fun for Little Kids

Preschoolers and little kids will want to get in on the Halloween fun, but might find some older children's Halloween movies a bit scary or too grown up.

The Kids Halloween 4 Pack is a new 2014 compilation of little kid friendly animations on themes related to Halloween.

The set includes Wubbzy, Eloise and two Scary Godmother tales. The runtime is 210 minutes so there's plenty here to keep little one occupied during the Halloween season.

Is it Okay for Kids to be Scared?

It can be really hard to judge whether a movie is suitable for a particular child. We tend to watch scary movies first as we know our own children best.

My older son is nearly 8 and he's quite sensitive. What affects him most tends to be the feeling of scary tension building up, especially when accompanied by effective mood-creating music.

My 6 year old son is more likely to be affected by sad emotions - he really empathizes with the characters. He enjoys a bit of scary tension!

For other children it's to grue and gore that's the most scary thing.

It's best to watch scary movies with your kids and be prepared to stop the movie or take one of the children off to do something else if it gets to be too much. Being a little bit frightened can be fun for some kids, but you don't want to go too far.

Classic Family Halloween Movies

Classic Charlie Brown

We'll start with the most classic kids Halloween movie of them all: It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Parents who remember watching this movie as kids will enjoy sharing it with their kids and it holds up pretty well for kids today.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is a modern Halloween classic starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. This is a great family Halloween movie with a PG rating.

It is dark so probably not one for the little kids.

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Halloween Silliness

Wallace & Gromit - The Curse of the Were-Rabbit is a family Halloween movie for everyone. This is a great movie to re-watch each year.

Definitely one to get if you haven't seen it and want to find a new family classic.

Funny, clever, silly and just a little bit scary.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Properly Scary

Something Wicked This Way Comes is based on a Ray Bradbury novel and gets excellent reviews. It's dark and a bit scary. Something Wicked This Way Comes is a Disney film, but it's not traditional Disney fare.

It gets a PG rating so one for bigger kids and parents to watch together. Or a group of older kids to watch at a Halloween sleepover and get a little scared.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Perfect for watching Between Halloween and Christmas

It's Tim Burton again with The Nightmare Before Christmas. We get this movie out every year and watch it a few times from Halloween to Christmas. Wonderful stuff. The music is brilliant, the animation so stylised. Definitely another classic.

Thanks for Visiting
