Scariest and Funniest Halloween Themed Practical Jokes and Pranks

Updated on November 3, 2015

Halloween pranks so bad the victim won't know whether to laugh or cry

Halloween is a scary and ghoulish time already but its fun to make it even scarier (and funnier) with some great practical jokes and pranks. It's a time when people are getting together for Halloween parties and trick or treating so there are many opportunities for a well placed prank with a big audience. People will be laughing about this tricks for days. They might come for a treat but give them a trick instead!

Trick or Treating Pranks

Give them a treat with a side of trick

A very scary practical joke is to have a child in your family jump in with a group of other (older) children or preferably teens as they come up to your door to trick or treat. Then "kidnap" that child by grabbing them, pulling them into the house and slamming the door. Have them struggle and scream. You will give the others a real fright!

Front Yard Scare

Dress up as a scarecrow and sit on a bench on the front porch. Put up a sign that says "take one" and hold a bowl of candy in your lap. Wait until a kid (not too young) comes up and takes a big handful. Then say in a scary voice, "I said take ONE!"

Another variation is to wear leaf camouflage and hide in the yard and jump up and surprise kids as they walk up to your door.

Practical Jokes and Pranks for a Halloween Party

In a bathroom that has a shower, place a lifelike mannequin or scary Halloween prop such as a ghoul behind the shower curtain. Either turn the faucet on a little so that it's dripping, or else place a noiseless battery operated fan inside the shower to make the curtain blow a little. If the dripping or blowing gets a guest to peek inside while taking care of their business they'll get quite the scary surprise.

Put red die on the back of a shirt to make it look like a considerable amount of blood. Wear that shirt and put a jacket or sweater over it. Start telling party-goers that you don't feel right and that you're really feeling sick and dizzy. Say you're over-heating and take your jacket off and put your head between your knees. Guests will freak out with fear that something is truly wrong with you until they hear your laughter.

Fake Roaches Prank

During your next Halloween party ask a guest to grab something for you in the pantry or cabinet. Have some of these realistic looking cockroaches placed throughout to give them a real scare!

Scare Guests at your Halloween Party with a Fake Parking Ticket

Next time you throw a Halloween party put parking tickets on all the cars of your guests. You can even put them on the cars of other guests when you attend a party. Sign them from the Grim Reaper.

Caramel Apple Practical Joke

Make a delicious batch of caramel apples for your guests or family. However one unsuspecting victim will be shocked when they bite theirs and found out they received a caramel covered onion!

Severed Finger Scare

While chopping something in the kitchen, gives guests a scare by making a chopping noise and then start screaming and holding your hand. Place on of these severed fingers on the cutting board so everyone thinks you chopped your finger off.

Severed Finger Food - A great "appetizer" at your Halloween Party

Shock guests reaching for a healthy treat from the veggie platter when instead they find a severed finger in their grasp.

Surprise on the toilet seat

While this practical joke isn’t scary in the traditional sense, in some ways walking into the bathroom at a Halloween party and seeing this would be the scariest prank of them all!

Creepy Mirror Prank

Either at home or a friends house write a scary message on the bathroom mirror. "I'm watching you" or "Find my Killer" are examples of good messages. Blow on it to make sure you can see the words. The next time someone takes a shower and fogs up the bathroom they'll have a creepy surprise!

I liked filling my yard with stuffed "ghouls" and then dressing up like one and holding the candy on my lap. People would come up, think I was fake, and then I'd grab at them. Loads of fun.

That video is hilarious. Here's a bit of trivia: when you get scared, you get a hit of adrenaline, which causes the brain to form strong memories (makes sense when you think about it). So these pranks are UNFORGETTABLE.

I once pulled the severed finger prank on my father and he was totally fooled. It wasn't on Halloween though but that is definitely one worth trying.

The best always involve someone coming out of nowhere. I remember as a kid, a bowl of candy being placed next to what we thought was a Halloween decoration, until it grabbed one us.

I love them all ~ as long as they aren't dangerous. A good prank should be scary but make you laugh when it's all said and done. The best one I've seen lately was on George Takei's FB page...you take empty TP rolls and cute eyeholes in them, put a glow stick inside and hide them inside bushes so they look like spooky eyes. I bet if you added scary monster noises it would be even scarier! lol

This terrific lens is more than worthy of a Flyby Winging and it can be found among the other blessed lenses at Have Wings Will Bless More! They may call me an aimless wanderer, but not all who wander are aimless and I'm glad my aim was good when I wandered upon this. ~Ren

Really scary, all of these. I like the scarecrow with the bowl of candies. I think that you should only scare the older kids though.

I'm to chicken for Halloween pranks or practical jokes. My friends would be scared of the backlash too so they have yet to set me up. I really enjoyed your lens.

The Best Halloween I ever had was when I dress up as a Goblin and set on the Porch very still and motionless. After everyone got their Treat, I gave them their Trick! I would scare them off the Porch, they were Never Ready for it oe expecting it; that was the most fun I ever had! I scared someone so bad, that I had to remove the mask, just because they thought I was a Real Monster!
