Halloween Window Gel Clings

Updated on September 10, 2013

Jackolantern Gel Clings are a big hit in this house!

A trip to the local big box, discount retail/grocery store resulted in a popular Halloween Window Decoration. Spending less than $3 produced a lot of joy for the grand-children in this house. These gel clings were a small challenge to remove from the packaging, but the effort resulted in delight from a 3 year old.

Below you will see my efforts to apply the jackolantern gels to our windows. After they are in place, do feel free to let the kids play with the placement. No creative effort will be wrong. After all, Halloween is about imagination, isn't it?

All photos belong to me, Mickie_G unless otherwise stated.

When do you begin to put up Halloween Decorations?

Now, this is not covered in the questions, but consider putting a comment box, but do you tend to use "Halloween" décor or "Autumn/Fall Seasonal" décor. Since my grandchildren get a kick out of the cute jackolanterns and ghosts, I go with the Halloween theme. I also like to get a lot of use out of my dollar spent, so I also throw in a few "seasonal" classic shapes that can be used up to the end of November.

When does Halloween décor go up at your home?

The earlier the better! August and September!

I usually wait until October, though it's still mostly summer weather here in Los Angeles.

Fall decorations up in September, but spooky stuff waits till October!

Mid-October is soon enough for us.

I start in late September with harvest decorations and get into the real Halloween stuff by mid-October.

Now that my kids are older, I don't decorate as early as I once did.

Great Halloween Window Gel Decoartions on Amazon - These window gel clings sell out early!

No time to go to the store? You can easily order window gel clings from Amazon.

I have included several choices for your Halloween windows because these gel clings sell out quickly. See something you like, then get it now!

At the bottom of the list I have put in a scarecrow that can technically be classified as "autumn/fall" seasonal window decorations. Stretch those decorating dollars!

SCAREcrow. This pack will work for Autumn and for Halloween on into Thanksgiving.

How I applied my Halloween Jackolantern Gels:

Put the Halloween Gel Strips directly on the window

While the gels were still on the strip of clear cellophane they were packaged on, I placed the jackolantern gels to the window and gently began to pull the cello down. Be patient and be kind; those Halloween Window Gels will be moved often and sometimes not to perfection.

      Gently pull off the cellophane

This works pretty well but if the jackolantern is too big, it tends to stretch. See what I ended up doing to put this Halloween Gel on the window.

Using my thumb to pull the jackolantern gel off--

After much trial and error and stretching gel, I had to use my thumb to press the gel onto the window while gently rolling it off the stiff cellophane. The smaller pumpkin gels were easier to put on the window without using my hand to hold the gel on the clean window.

Halloween Window Clings: Personal Review - These Ghost Decorations are not made of gel like the jack-o-lanterns above.

Make sure the window is clean before applying the decorations. The instructions say that the window should be a little damp when you apply the clings.

The ghost clings that I purchased are different from the one I found on Amazon, below. Window clings are thin like cellophane and not gooey like the window gels. I plan to store these clings in a ziplock type bag--and not in the attic! Hopefully, they will keep their cling so I can use them to decorate in late September next year.

Little ones like to change these Halloween clings around. My three year old grand-daughter had no trouble handling the pieces. Yes, the designs she made were not perfect, but that is OK. She has fun dressing the ghosts and that is what matters.

Do not be afraid to give your honest opinion about using gel clings to decorate for Halloween. One point to remember, these gel clings can be used on a storm door, too. They are not limited to windows that could be too high for your children to reach without climbing on a chair. Since I live in the southern USA, we rarely have temperatures below 32 degrees during October, so I do not know how these gels and window clings react to freezing Halloween weather. If you know, please let me know in the comment box.

I saved the packaging for these jackolantern gel clings so I can try to use them in the years to come. Once they are in the package, I will store them in a closet that is cool. No attic storage for these soft babies.

Have something to say about Halloween Window Gel Clings? - Do you think the window decorations are boo-tiful?

@Wednesday-Elf: I like the way the jackolantern "floats" on the window in the intro, too.

The picture in your intro is marvelous. It looks like that pumpkin gel is 'floating' in the air! :) And, my, you do have lovely 'clean' windows! These are darling. Despite your initial placement trouble, it looks like your cute little granddaughter is having a great time playing with these gels. What a cute idea for Halloween decorations. Congrats on Front Page placement!

I like these window gel clings, the colors are very vivid. But you are right about the trouble getting them out of the package; it can be a challenge. They would be fun for the grandchildren!
