How to Have a Harry Potter Christmas

Updated on November 17, 2014

Hogwarts Christmas

Have a Harry Potter fan in the house? Why not surprise that individual by adding a Harry Potter theme to the holiday season?

It can be as subtle as adding some ornaments to the tree or you can go all out with a complete themed tree along with Christmas stockings, decorations, holiday cards, wrapping accessories, gifts and more.

With two sons who love Harry Potter, one of them being totally obsessed, I know I'll be picking up some decorations for the home this year. Let's explore together some of the great things you can do to add a Harry Potter theme to the holidays.

Harry Potter Christmas Tree

Let's start with the tree. There are numerous Harry Potter ornaments to choose from. They range from individual ornaments, to sets and collectibles. Now if you really want to go all out, consider setting up Hogwarts Express around the tree. There are even Harry Potter tree lights. So, what looks good to you?

How about a train around the tree?

Don't forget some ornaments.

Aren't these gorgeous? They're made from die cast metal and represent the houses of Hogwarts.

Harry Potter Christmas Stockings

I love seeing the stockings hung up during the holidays. They bring such great anticipation of the upcoming Christmas day when Santa has come and left all sorts of goodies. Mine are hung up as part of my fireplace mantel decorating for the holidays. Whether you're the big Harry Potter fan of the family or someone else is, add to the holiday decor with a themed Christmas stocking. Here are some that are currently available.

Harry Potter Gift Ideas

So where does one begin? Of course there are the books and the movies, although most Harry Potter fans already have these. Otherwise, there are so many gift items to choose from. Lego puts out a great collection of Harry Potter items suitable for different age ranges. There is also a multitude of Harry Potter board and video games on the market. In this household, Scene It and Lego Harry Potter video games are a must! Let's not forget a wizard's wand.

Hoping to duplicate some of the food mentioned or seen in the Harry Potter series? Consider a Harry Potter cookbook. Looking for decorations? Perhaps a Harry Potter snow globe? You can even buy a Harry Potter music box. Of course, there are Harry Potter posters, clothing, food items and more.

If buying for kids, think about Harry Potter dolls, coloring books, stickers and toys. There is no end to what you can find for a true Harry Potter fan.

Lego Harry Potter

If your Harry Potter fan is also a Lego fan, there are lots of great items that would make great gifts. Our family loves the Lego video games including Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman and of course, both of the Lego Harry Potter video games. In addition, both of my sons love the Lego Harry Potter kits.

Harry Potter Cookbooks

Wish you could duplicate some of the wonderful food and beverages of the world of Harry Potter? There are some great cookbooks available. Imagine relaxing at the end of the day with some butter beer and treats. Let's not forget the banquet scenes in the movies. Oh how I wish I could go to Hogwarts for just one of their dinners. Have you ever seen a spread like that before?

Best Harry Potter Character

I love Harry. I think he offers great inspiration. I also love the humor of Ron, especially when he's scared. Dobby tugs at my heart and I'm so glad he got his freedom. Hagrid is another wonderful character. I happen to love heroes, while others love villians. Do you have a favorite Harry Potter character?

Harry Potter Wand Store

Although shopping on Diagon Alley would be the ultimate way to aquire a magic wand, fortunately, for us Muggles, there are alternatives. Wands are enjoyed by kids and adults alike. While kids can play with them, there are adults who like to collect them and put them up on display. I personally like the illuminating wand.

Magic wands have been around for centuries.

Harry Potter Treats

I know how much my family looks forward to the gifts and treats that Santa leaves in our stockings. Although my sons are the big Harry Potter fans of the family, I have to admit that there are many wonderful treats featured in the movies I would love to try. These are some on my wish list.

Are you on pottermore? I was involved with it for a while, but I havn't been on since the beta. As much as I wanted to be a slytherin, I guess It's been decided that I should be a Griffindore. And I LOVE Luna.
