The Setting For Your Ugly Sweater Party

Nothing gets you in the mood for a Christmas party like a well decorated home. So put up that fabulous tree, set out the eggnog, plug in the lights, and turn on the music. When you are setting up for your party, you will want to plan ahead. It is always a pain when you have to run for the store at the last minute. Don't forget to wear your own Ugly Chrismas Sweater, or you can wow your guests by making your own sweater.

Cook Time

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 30-45 minutes (includes cook time)

Serves: 8

Gingerbread Triffle

  • 1 can pumpkin pie filling
  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 tub of whip cream
  • 1 box of gingerbread cake mix
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg


  1. Cook gingerbread cake mix as directed. Allow time to cool to room temperature.
  2. You will be layering ingredients. It will look best if layered in a glass bowl. This will make for an attractive display.
  3. Follow directions on pudding mix box.
  4. Combine pumpkin pie filling with pudding and nutmeg. Mix well.
  5. Start layers with 1/3rd of gingerbread layered on the bottom of the glass bowl.
  6. Next, add 1/3rd of pumpkin mix.
  7. Try to spoon layers on lightly in order to maintain the seperation of layers.
  8. Add 1/3rd of the whip cream.
  9. Continue with layers ending with whip cream.
  10. Sprinkle cinnamon on top and serve.
  11. This is a delicious desert and very easy!

Ugly Sweater Contest


Old sweater-Support your local Salvation Army thrift store and get a sweater for less than a dollar!

Christmas decorations-The sky is the limit here. You can use ornaments to hang on the sweater, wrapping paper, ribbon, or an assortment of pom poms from your local craft store

Safety pins-or other things to attach decorations to the sweater

Instructions: Divide teams into groups of 3-5. Provide them with a sweater and supplies for decorating. Tell teams to split up. Give teams 10 minutes to decorate, and then have a fashion show! Have all guests vote on their favorite ugly sweater!

Cost: 5-10 dollars

Santa's Grab Bag


Zip lock bags

Random items from around the house. The more random the better. Put 5-7 items in each zip lock bag.

Instructions: Divide teams into groups of 3-5. Hand them a zip lock bag containing random items. Inform them that they will be making up a story with a Christmas theme. The catch is that the story must include all items in the zip lock bag. Have the teams split up and take 10 minutes to come up with a story. All teams will gather back together and tell their story. This game requires creativity and ends in hilarity!

Toilet Paper

Scarves and mittens


Divide your teams into groups of 3-5. Give each team a roll of toilet paper. The goal is to wrap a person with toilet paper. The first team to use the whole roll and add the scarf and mittens wins!

Price: A 3 pack of toilet paper 3-5 dollars.

Christmas Trivia Game

Do you know what the name of the dog was in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation? What did folks dress up as in The Christmas Song? If you know the answers, then you will be great at this game. There are many resources online listing Christmas trivia. Use theirs, or come up with your own.

Divide teams up into groups of 3-5 or play individually. There are different ways to play.

Elimination Style- A person is knocked out of the contest when they get an answer wrong

Points Style- Give a set number of questions and add up the number correct. The winner is the one with the most points.

Wrapping paper





Select teams of two. The will be instructed that they are wrapping a christmas present, but they will be doing it using one hand!

Have each team member place an arm around the waist of their teammate. They could also hold hands if that is more comfortable.

They must work together to wrap the present. The group decides who did the best job wrapping.

Cost: A few dollars for tape, bows, and wrapping paper.
