How to make Green Flowers

Updated on March 18, 2013

Giving Gifts in Green when you live in the Green.

Hi everyone! I am writing to give you some gift ideas from the Great Northwest for Saint Patrick√Ęs Day. And anyone that lives here will enjoy this, and I hope that those of you who do not live here will also enjoy this.

So, how do you give a nice gift for people that live in very wet climate? Well we could give them an umbrella, but that really won't get used here. People that live here don't like having to use an umbrella any more than I like this rain. It rains so much here that I swear I have webbed feet now. So, how do I give a gift for this area. Well I will do my best to explain how I can turn a frown upside down.

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

As if we need something else green here

With all the rain and cold nights that we have had here lately, I see moss growing everywhere. With it being a dismal state and I mean that with the deepest compassion for people that live here. It has a way of making it difficult to stay smiling all the time. Well maybe for others it is not easy to smile, but for me it has always been an easy thing to do, and now I want to share some of that with you. Last year at this time, I was planning an over the hill party for someone very dear to me. I tell you, with all the puddles, and ice and everything we deal with at this time; it makes a person really have to work on some of this stuff.

St. Patty's Day has been a long time favorite of mine. Depending on whom you are giving the gift to will depend on which way to go about it. So, I will start with the ladies, I know that if I were to get a Green rose, it would be very unique. And how would I get one of those you are asking? Well I am going to tell you some of the things I have tried and read about.

Are you ready to dig in a little deeper now? I know with Valentines just getting over and everything it is almost a hard idea to entertain, but it is one worth entertaining.

Green upon Green - And did I mention they are green.

Well If you hadn't noticed the theme here. Here is a clue: Its GREEN. Don't be caught without your green on.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Find great gift ideas here as well as other places. Like Gifts.com, or Findgifts.com.

Creating Something Unique

There is the traditional Good Luck Pendants. But how about this.

A dozen of Green Roses or Multi Colored Roses.

You can use the artificial ones or real ones. But the directions I will share will be for live ones and are found in the video below and on website "HUB Pages.com" And yes we are going to change the color of the roses. This is an awesome thing to watch. So get ready to be amazed.

I was amazed when I personally tried this at home. I found the video on YouTube.com and I did not think I would find what I wanted to do on there, but there it was and for written out directions on this process you can find them on "HUB Pages.com" Not only will you be amazed so will everyone else that see them. Granted, when only using one color it is not the same as when you use multi colors. So, this is really up to you, do you just want to do the green ones or the ones that have the array of colors. So while you are choosing I will let you know what you will need.

Things you will need:

4 cups of water

a dozen roses preferably white long stem roses. Stems need to be at least 8 or 9 inches long.

GREEN Food Coloring - water soluble.

If you want to do the rainbow on the roses you will need to choose at least four colors. As you will see in the video below. This technique is show in the video below and described on "HUB Pages.com" It is a magnificent but simple process and I am sure you will agree after you see the video..

Now how to change the color of one rose and make it into another color.

The process for changing the color..

This is top secret! Should you decide to accept the mission..

This however will not self-destruct, like Mission Impossible. So come on, let's get started.

Steps for processing one color:

First, you will take the cups of water and mix the Green into the water. You will want this to be fairly dark in one cup and maybe a little lighter in another and then somewhere in between the two colors. It is kind of a hit or misses as to how much color will go into the petals.

Second, once the water is extremely dark or to the color of your liking, you will want to prop them so that the roses are in the upright position.

(It is during this process that the Roses suck up the water through their stems.)

Third, we wait for 24 hours as stated in the Video below and on "HUBPages.com" and wait and see.. Watch the transformation of your simple white rose!

Now remove it. Wrap them together with ribbon or get some paper from the florist and add some baby's breath into the bouquet.

Watch the process. - Can you really change their stripes?

Okay we are not changing any stripes today. But you will be amazed at how this works. Come sit, sit. watch this with me.

Additional Process

Doing this using multi colors.

As you can tell this is fairly easy to do.

But again I will provide you the instructions as to how we change the color of a rose. If you want to try this instead of just doing the one color that will be amazing too.

Making a rose change its colors. Dipping the stem is not recommended, you will actually have to cut the stem. This is described in the video below or on the website:" HUB Pages.com"

You will need the same items as listed above.

So, now moving forward.

Making Rainbow Roses.

Please leave your comments. Thank you in advance, happy reading.

I remember this as a science experiment in Cub Scouts, and, trust me, that's going back a while.

This is such a great way to brighten up any one's day at anytime. I haven't tried it yet but I am going to. It sounds like a fun project to do...and think of all the special occasions..birthdays, Easter is just around the corner and of course proms..and the list goes on. Terrific idea. Thanks for sharing with us Cathy.

RocketSquid Tip: Since your topic is green flowers, a great image of a green flower would be perfect in the intro module.

We used to change flower colors when I was a kid. There's a white week with tiny petals that picks up the colors quite well (don't know the name of it).
