Interesting Things to Do During Summer Breaks
Movie marathon. Binge-eating. Oversleeping. Are you feeling bored days after the start of your summer break? Do you need something to do that would make you proud of yourself for staying active?
We list down 9 activities that you can do to stay upbeat this summer break.
Take summer lessons
If your family can afford, why don't you enroll in summer classes especially those that relate to your areas of interest or those which you do not know yet, but you want to explore?
Taking swimming lessons could be exciting because aside from learning different strokes, you also stay fit. In addition, mentioning of the humid temperature during the season, swimming is the perfect way to cool down instead of drinking sodas and other powdered juices. If you are fond of musical instruments, you might as well enroll in music lessons. Or, you might like to take voice lessons if you want to learn how to perfectly hit a note. You can also have cooking or baking lessons if you love hosting and preparing foods. Your family would deeply appreciate you if you apply what you’ve learned by cooking some dish for dinner or baking pastries for snacks. You can also offer snacks and refreshments to neighbors and friends for a cost and earn some bucks.
Summer is the best season for students to be enterprising.
Be into sports
Engaging in sports during summer is the best chance to trim down those fats you have accumulated due to overeating during the times when you were pressured by your studies. You can join in summer sports clinics offered in your school and locality such as basketball, volleyball, badminton and football. Enjoy playing and meet new friends!
Get a summer job
Having a summer job is one of the most exciting activities that a student can do. It does not only develops discipline and diligence, but also implies that we can stand on our own little ways such as buying the things that we want and going to places that we want to visit without asking too much money from our parents. Some possible summer jobs include store keeping, baby-sitting, tutoring students or being a crew member in fast-food outlets.
Read great books
For students who are book enthusiasts, summer is the best time to read all the excellent books that you have desired to chew and digest for quiet some time already. You can go to places and meet interesting people without moving your feet—only your powerful imagination. This is the beauty of reading. You can also make a critique of the novel you are reading and publish it online if you are also into writing.
Start a blog
If you are fond of playing words and exploring your imagination, blogging is a good avenue for you to invest your free time and be discovered. Get published and be read by thousands of people online.
HubPages is one of the best blog sites that I have encountered. It has user- friendly tools and its writing community is so accommodating and helpful in encouraging you to write quality hubs. If you write excellent articles, you have a high chance of getting great readership. A great number of visitors and readers of your blog posts mean great accolades and earnings.
Spend time with your relatives
Staying with relatives is a great summer experience. It lets you get to know them more and bond with them.
Here's a hint: If you live in a city, don't stay with relatives who are also living in another city. You will not be able to see a new horizon there. Instead, you will only see and experience the same problems and stress-triggers such as traffic jam, pollution, violence and overcrowding.
Try staying with relatives who are in the country and get to see the refreshing views and experience a rustic kind of living. If you are bold and adventurous, you will surely have the pleasures of riding on horse's back, fishing, mountain climbing, or even assisting in harvesting crops. In the country, you will learn a lot of things about life and living. For instance, you will learn to apply into your life the saying, "If you want it, work for it," since most things in the country are not readily available.
Join summer camps
If you are an outgoing type of person, you can join summer camps and meet new friends. Aside from that, you will be able to experience the feeling of being detached from the comforts of your home which is a good thing for most teenagers who are still very dependent on their parents in almost all things. You will be taught to be strong, to take risk and believe in your own abilities. Or, you can join an exciting weight loss camp if you want to become slimmer and sexier when you go back to school. Finally, if you are into religious camping activities, you will be able to get get closer to God and bring home with you the good things you have learned.
Tidy Up Your Room (or Home)
It would be very dusty and you will sneeze a lot. But cleaning your own room is one way of showing your gratitude to it for containing you when you want rest and privacy (to secretly cry because your ultimate crush is dating your best friend). Also, in cleaning your own room you will be able to discover the lost stuffs that your subconscious mind has been looking for a long time. What a great discovery (and get- together)!
If you can afford to go to other places, go for it. You deserve to be in places where you can perfectly relax, meet new people and create new summer experiences. You can do fun activities such as rafting, island hopping or visiting landmarks and museums. Of course, foods will not be left- out in your travel get- away. Just be careful to foods that will make you gain weight easily so that you will not be having grudges and regrets in the end.
Just be creative!
Summertime is not so different from the regular school days. The only distinction is that we will be having so much time for sleeping and doing things that we don't intensively do during regular days such as cleaning the house and all.
This is the reason why we feel that we have so much time and freedom to procrastinate things which often lead us boredom, guilt and frustrations. Since there will be less motivation and pressure put on us unlike when we are still schooling, we tend to become lazy. As students, we might not be acquainted also to the idea that we will stop receiving our dear allowances for a while so the situation can get worse since there will be less "motivation".
Despite all these, if we really desire to continue to become socially and physically active, we can make all things possible given with the best resource that we have: time. The only things that we need to have are motivation, determination and creativity. Go for these things, explore and have fun!
