Halloween Birthday Cakes
Sweet and Scary Treats
It wouldn't be a Halloween birthday party without a Halloween-themed birthday cake. I'm no professional cake-maker, but I can bake cakes from a mix, and that's all it takes for a basic Halloween cake!
Ingredients
- Dark-brown cake, such as devil's food or dark chocolate, prepared according to mix instructions
- White frosting, such as vanilla or cream cheese
- orange food coloring
- black food coloring
- Bake and cool your cake.
- Divide frosting into three batches (one large, two small). Mix orange food coloring into large batch to achieve desired orange shade. Mix black food coloring into one of the small batches. Leave the third batch white.
- Frost cake with orange food coloring.
- Place black and white batches of frosting is plastic baggies and cut off the corner. Use black frosting to create bats and spiders. Use white frosting to create ghosts, mummies, and eyes on the black creatures.
- Serve and enjoy!

Q: What Kind of Halloween-Themed Birthday Present Should I Give?
A: You don't want to go too overboard with your Halloween theme! If you're crafty, you can perhaps make something that is Halloween related. Otherwise, a "normal" gift will do just fine.
Halloween Birthday Party Wrapping Paper - Make Your Own
It can be difficult to find Halloween-themed wrapping paper to wrap birthday gifts in. It's worth it to check your local party or Halloween stores; they might have something you can use. Alternately, you can always find attractive fabrics this time of year that can act as reusable gift wrap. Alternately, you can get some white, orange, or black wrapping paper and adorn your present with Halloween-themed stickers.
Halloween Birthday Party Food
For the main course of your Halloween birthday party meal, why not try some pumpkin stew? The secret to this hearty vegetable, meat and bean stew is cooking it in a pumpkin for an hour before serving.
Here are some more great ideas for food to sever... er, I mean serve at your Halloween birthday party:
Savory
- Halloween bento (Japanese-style boxed lunch, pictured on right)
- Caprese made from mozzarella, olives, and tomatoes
- Pumpkin muffins: great for serving with pumpkin stew!

Halloween Birthday Party Drinks
Festive and Fun
A good Halloween birthday party needs to have good drinks.
You can make an easy punch by mixing pineapple juice, orange sherbet, and ginger ale. Throw in some raspberries to create the look of blood. Other great Halloween birthday party drinks include:
- Claire Robinson's Dark and Spooky: this cocktail mixes rum, ginger ale, and a gummy spider (pictured)
- Dark Chocolate Martini
- Candy corn cordials made with vodka, orange liquuer, and of course, candy corn
Q: What is the difference between a Halloween party and a Halloween birthday party?
A: Well, you get to blow out the candles and serve cake, for one thing. You also get to wrap presents in Halloween-themed gift packaging. It's basically just an added incentive to celebrate in a Halloween-y fashion!
