Patriotic Songs - Celebrate This Indian Independence Day With These Awesome Melodies!

Updated on January 2, 2016

Listen and Celebrate the Beauty of India!

Music can be considered as the one and only language that is universal. Everyone enjoys music, it connects people and if these melodies contain lyrics with a deeper meaning, it becomes that more special! The patriotic songs listed here depicts the beauty of India which has simply grown year by year after her struggle for independence.

Many people just do not know how to celebrate India's independence day. You can simply wave around the small Indian flag so readily available in local stores, or you can distribute mithai (sweets) and share the joy with your fellow Indians, or better still spend a quiet day at home listening to your favorite patriotic songs.

Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon - Lata Mangeshkar Performing Live

Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon

This song was performed live by Lata Mangeshkar on 26th Jan, 1963 (Indian republic day). She sang it so well that Jawaharlal Nehru reportedly broke into tears by the end of the song. Here's the translation of the song [courtesy : Wikipedia]-

O! the people of my country!
Keep on chanting the slogans (the slogans praising our country)
This is an auspicious day of all of us
Furl our beloved tricolour
but don't forget that at the borders
brave people have lost their lives
remember them a bit
who never returned home.

O! the people of my country!
have some tears in your eyes
those who have become martyrs
remember their sacrifice

When the himalayas got wounded,
When our freedom was in peril
as long as they had any breath left in them, they fought
then after they laid down their corpse
they kept their head on the Bayonet of their guns,
those immortal souls slept
for all those martyrs.....

when it was Diwali in the country
they played Holi with their blood
when we were sitting in our homes
they were getting pierced by bullets
they were our blessed soldiers
blessed was their youth
for all those martyrs.....

some were sikh, some were jaat and some marata
some were Gurkha and some from madras
whoever died at the border
every such warrior was an Indian
the blood that fell on the hills of the Himalayas
that blood was Indian
for all those martyrs.....

body was drenched with blood,
even then they raised guns
Each one killed ten enemies
then, fell down having lost consciousness
When their last moment arrived,
they said, now we die
Stay happy, beloved citizens of the country,
now we start our journey to afterlife
how so much crazy people they were
how so much self-respecting they were
for all those martyrs.....

lest you forget them
therefore this story has been recounted
for all those martyrs.....
Victory to India, Victory to the Indian Armed Forces
Victory to India, Victory to India, Victory to India

Des Rangila

This is a song which would cater more to the youth. It depicts the beauty of India beautifully though. For those who are tired of hearing the same old songs can shift to the newer ones like these which showcase India in a beautiful light.

Vande Mataram

Vande Mataram by Lata Mangeshkar is a must hear! Our Indian nightingale definitely brings much spark and devotion to this patriotic number. If you don't hear this splendid of a song this independence day, you are definitely missing out on something. Vande Mataram literally means "I do homage to the mother".

I Love My India

This is a song which was very popular when I was a child. I used to just love singing along to 'I love my India'. More suitable for the younger generation and highly appreciated by kids.

Aisa Des Hai Mera

Time to end silly disputes and just share some love ! This song conveys the feelings through in an apt manner. Talking about two countries (Pakistan and India) always involved in some rift or another, the song beautifully tells you how both places are born from the same roots and how similar both are in terms of customs and traditions.

Hum Honge Kamyaab

One of the very first patriotic songs that I learnt. Hum Honge Kamyaab brings a lot of good memories for me and I lighten up with joy whenever I hear this absolutely amazing patriotic tune.

Saare Jahan Se Accha

An all time favorite for many.

Zindagi Maut Na Ban Jaye

A very catchy Indian patriotic song from the movie Sarfarosh.

The Indian music I have has a very distinctive sound/character. Enjoyed listening to some of these patriotic songs. The "I Love My India" video was the easiest for me to understand what was going on or being communicated. Thanks for sharing these. (I would love to learn more about Indian history and culture.)
